Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Monday, December 22, 2008 at Kimbrough Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Chris Hogan with burial in Murray Cemetery in Carbon. Visitation was 3:00-5:00 PM on Sunday. Danny was born in Gorman, Texas on November 9, 1949 to Thomas Jefferson and Jimmie Mae (Hogan) Nicholas. He worked for Texas Plastics in Midland, Texas where he was a supervisor. He was a Baptist. He was an avid bowler and was a former member of the Abilene Junior Bowling Association. Danny was a talented artist. He was a devoted son and brother and the light of his family’s life. Having been deaf from birth, “he can now hear”. We will miss his sweet disposition and sense of humor and he will be in our hearts forever. He is survived by his mother, Jimmie Kinard of Cisco; brothers, Don Nicholas and wife Mary of San Antonio; sister, Betty Diane Bowden of Eastland; step brother, Roger Kinard and wife Macy of Graham; nephews and niece, Tommy Bowden, Dusty Bowden, Derrick Nicholas, Jesse Cavazos and Lindsay Anderson. He was preceded in death by his father Tommy Nicholas and stepfather Royce Kinard and brother-in-law, Kent Bowden. Wayne was born to Raymond Parson and Lona Abbott. Wayne was a resident of Everman for more than 40 years. He married Dorthy Jean Etheredge on May 2, 1947, in Cisco. Wayne served in the United States Coast Guard from December 1941 to February 1945. He was a dedicated member of the Highland Church of Christ and the Everman Lions Club. Wayne was at one time the Everman chief of police. Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, both parents and one sister. Survivors: Children, Kathy Morton of Weatherford, Gaylon Parson of South Carolina, Shella Turner and husband, Charles of Weatherford, Walter Parson of Everman; six sisters; two brothers; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. | |

He married Neoma Ables on August 29, 1938 at Putnam. He served in the US Navy during WW II. He worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator, moving his family to California in 1950. After retiring he and his wife moved back to Cisco in 1990, where they have resided since. He & his wife operated a cafe in Carbon for several years. He was preceded in death by a brother. Survivors are his wife of 64 years, Neoma of Cisco; two sons, Bill and wife Deanna of Eastland and Johnnie and wife, LaDonna of Calif; three grandchildren, Gene Phillips, Bobby Phillips and Wendy Sullivan; and three great-grandchildren, Justin, Kelsey and Codey; and numerous other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were Bobby Phillips, Burl Petree, Johnnie Phillips, Truett Spruill, Clyde Hamilton, and Bill Phillips. |

Phillips, Jr. on August 29, 1938 in Putnam. She and her husband operated a cafe in Carbon for several years. He preceded her in death. She was a member of the Pentecostal Church and the Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include two sons, Bill Joe Phillips and wife Deanna of Cisco and Johnny Ray Phillips and wife LaDonna of Cathey's Valley, California; sister, Robbie Barnett of San Ramon, California; grandchildren, Robert Lee Phillips, Gene Louis Phillips and Wendy Rey Sullivan; great-grandchildren, Justin Aaron Phillips, Cody Sullivan and Kelsey Carol Sullivan. Graveside services were held Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Murray Cemetery in Carbon directed by Summers-Bakker Funeral Home. Juanita was born September 20, 1921, the daughter of Franklin and Minnie Pearl Mangum in Carbon. She graduated from Carbon High School in 1938. She married R.W. Bunton in 1940 and soon after moved to Texas City. She was employed by Knuckles Grocery Store as a cashier and a bookkeeper, Rainbow Cafe and several years at The Lipton Tea Plant in Galveston. While married to R.W. Bunton they had one son, Ray E. Bunton. She later married Christian Plank in 1963. They lived in Alta Loma and Texas City, Texas for 35 years before moving to Buffalo Gap in 1994. Christian passed away in 1995. She was a life long Baptist. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, parents and four brothers, Woodrow, Maurice, Coy and Rex Mangum. She is survived by her son, Rayburn E. Bunton, four grandsons, Joseph W., John R., Brian E. and Jacob E. Bunton and six great-grandchildren; also four nephews and one niece, Donald, Robert, Lewis, Coy Jr. and Doris Mangum. |

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2006, in the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home chapel. Interment followed at Murray Cemetery in Carbon. Pastor Jody Forbus officiated the services. Margaret was born on April 9, 1929 in Nimrod to B.W. Hobbs and Pearl Elizabeth Thomas Hobbs. She grew up in Eastland County and after her 8th grade graduation; she stayed in the classroom and continued to teach the 8th grade class for another three years. On February 26, 1946, she married Luther G. Purdom. The couple enjoyed over 53 years of marriage together until Luther's passing in 1999. She was a seamstress by trade and had retired from Hollywood Vassarette. In 2002, Margaret moved from Carbon into town to be closer to amenities and family. Margaret is survived by her sons, Larry Purdom of Abilene, Donnie Purdom of Comanche, and Mike Purdom of Eastland; her daughters, Glenda Horton of Austin, Sharon Anderson of Eastland, and Lisa Nichols of Atlanta, TX; her brother, Danny Hobbs of Eastland; her sisters, Ruby King of Carbon, Velma Bowles and Ora Hallmark, both of Eastland; 20 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and dear friends. Pallbearers serving were family members Travis Fraley, Ricky Lee, Scotty Hallmark, Donnie Purdom, Brandon Edwards, and Kevin Hobbs. | |

Mr. Reese was born on April 26, 1950 in Lamesa, Texas to Travis and Sadie (Crosby) Reese. He was a graduate of Olden High School and attended Tarleton State University. He worked as a wielder for a number of years. He also worked for Eagle Construction and Environmental Services, Inc. for 8 years. Most recently he had worked for Effluent Recycling Inc. of Ranger, Texas. He was a Baptist. Survivors are two brothers, Kenneth Reese and wife Sandra of Ovilla, TX. and Ronnie Reese and wife Kathy of Clear Lake, Calif.; two sisters, Barbara Whitehead of Cleburne, TX. and Mary Ann Williamson and husband Chuck of Las Vegas, Nevada; eight nieces and nephews; 12 great-nieces and nephews; two great-great nieces; and 12 cousins. |

The family request memorials be made in lieu of flowers to the West Texas Rehab in Abilene, Texas. Robert was born on November 27, 1947 in Ranger, Texas to Norman 'Bill' and Bobbie Spurlen Richardson. He graduated from high school in Belleview, Nebraska as well as graduating from the University of Nebraska in Omaha. Robert worked as a teacher in special education in Killeen, West and in Cisco as a teacher's aide. When he lived in Washington he worked as a drug and alcohol abuse prevention counselor. Robert was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by a sister Alice Marie Richardson in 1957. Robert is survived by his parents, Norman 'Bill' and Bobbie Richardson of Eastland; children, Rami Amaro of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, Lori Cammeron of New Hampshire, Ukiah Richardson of San Antonio; a brother, Larry Richardson of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; a sister, Frances Russum of Tacoma, WA.; five grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews | ||

Funeral services are today at 11 a.m. at the Carbon Community Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Murray Cemetery. Pastor Ray Rodgers and Pastor Jody Forbus will officiate the services. Cathy was born May 26, 1948, in Cisco, to Alden Jasper "Jack" Lowrance and Doris Lynn (Dye) Lowrance. She married Billy Delton Sandlin on July 5, 1974 in Carbon. Cathy worked and retired from the records department at the East End Co-op in Gorman. She was also a faithful member of the Carbon Community Baptist Church. She was a wonderful wife, a great mom, and a proud grandmother. Cathy was God's child and followed Him diligently. She greatly impacted the lives of many with her gentle caring spirit and uncomplaining nature. Cathy fought a courageous battle with colon cancer for over 4 years; she will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Preceding her in death was her father, Jack Lowrance. She is survived by: her husband of over thirty-two years, Bill Sandlin; her mother, Doris Thompson; her children and their spouses, Heather Lynn McKinney and husband Billy Jack, Clay Delton Sandlin and wife Emerald, and Alden Cole Sandlin and wife Ashly; her siblings, Vicki Lowrance, Don Lowrance, Mickey Rodgers, and Jerry Lowrance; and her four grandchildren, Kolby McKinney, Hannah McKinney, Cameron Sandlin, and Kelci Sandlin. | |

The Sandlin's moved to Carbon in 1938 to work a family farm. Elizabeth was a homemaker. She was also a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Carbon for over 65 years. She had been a member of the Pleasant Hill Home Demonstration Club. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband of over 45 years, D. D. Sandlin in May of 1981, a young child, Jimmy Allen Sandlin, and her sister, Ruth Chilis. He also preceded her in death in 1996. She was a member of the Mangum Baptist Church and she enjoyed spending her time sewing and working in her flower beds. She was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Edna Belyeu, Nona Tinney and Edith Ball; and 2 brothers, Alvin Brooker and Irven Brooker. Survivors include 3 daughter, Janet Girtz of Olden, Jo Ann Foley of Carbon and Sherry Elsick of Hubbard; 2 sons, Art Smith of Eastland and Tim Smith of Weatherford; 2 sisters, Naomi Cozart of Carbon and Velma Hollis of Clyde; 2 brothers, J.C. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2002 at the Bethel Baptist Church in Eastland, Rev. Jim Andrews and Rev. Dewey Lamb officiated. Burial was in the Murray Cemetery, Carbon, TX., directed by Bakker Funeral Home of Eastland. Mr. Tonn was born December 24, 1926 to James R. and Vinnie L. (Shirley) Tonn at Talpa, Texas. He lived in Coahoma and Big Spring before graduating from Carbon High School in 1944. He married Ladell Bethany on February 17, 1945 in Carbon, Texas. After serving in the U.S. Army, he graduated from Baylor University in 1956. He was a teacher and coach for 29 years, at schools including Desdemona, Rotan and Ropesville. He also pastored several rural Baptist churches. He retired in 1986 and moved to Eastland in 1987, where he lived until moving to Round Rock in 1997. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church of Eastland. She returned to Eastland in 1987 and moved to Round Rock in 1997. She was also a homemaker and mother and a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Eastland. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and an aunt and uncle, Odell and Emma Bethany. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2007 at the Murray Methodist Church. Interment was held at Murray Cemetery under the direction of the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home. William (Bill) Wicker was born on June 9, 1931 in Amarillo to William Franklin and Cora Simpson Wicker. Bill was raised in Fisher County and graduated Rotan H.S. in 1950 and later graduated Ranger Jr. College in 1957. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in January of 1951 and was promoted to Sergeant in June of 1952. He served for three years during the Korean War. Bill married Donna Brockman on June 9, 1955 in the Murray Methodist Church. He worked 17 years as a butcher for M-System Grocery in Abilene. Bill later served his country as a member of the United States Postal Service before retiring with 33 years of service. To know Bill was an honor; he was a man of stability and strength with an undeniable presence of integrity. He was a member of the Murray Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of over 51 years, Donna Wicker; his daughter, Frances Allred and husband Carey; his son, William Wicker, Jr; grandsons, Jake Allred and wife Kelly and Jerred Allred and wife Chaney; and his sister, Frances Sealey and husband Elmer. | ||

Graveside funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 2004 at the Murray Cemetery near Carbon, directed by Bakker Funeral Home of Eastland. He was born to John Sellars and Minnie Fay (Rasberry) Wilson on November 12, 1911, near Desdemona, TX. He grew up in the Carbon area, and married Edith Greer on July 17, 1941 in Palo Pinto, TX. He was a veteran of WW II, serving in the U.S. Army attached to the 8th Air Force. He had been a resident of Eastland since 1959, and was employed as a body repairman at Scott Body Works for 30 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Eastland and the Carbon Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith in February of 2004. He is survived by a son, Don Wilson and daughter-in-law, Jennifer of Grand Prairie; son, John Wilson and daughter-in-law, Sherry of Corinth; son, Hayden Wilson of Eastland and son, Johnnie Ray Wilson of Stephenville; daughter, Loretta Stephens of Stephenville; 12 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren. |

He later married Mabel A. Perez on April 30, 1999 in Gorman. He was a retired teamster from East Texas Motor Freight. He was a Veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Myra Wood, one son, four brothers and two sisters.
