Katha was the daughter of J.L. "Jay" McDaniel and Mary Lee Etta Fleming McDaniel. Katha never married. Katha was in her senior year at Tarleton State College in Stephenville. She left her apartment, going to her car. In the apartment above her they were having a big party going on, with a lot of drinking. There were many students on the balcony when it collapsed and fell to the walk were Katha was walking. It killed her instantly. When they got to her, her car keys were still in her hand. In 1996 we went to the Murray cemetery. This was right after Memorial Day. Her grave, along with several others was completely covered with pink and white carnations, made into a grave blanket. A very beautiful memorial for their loved ones. Katha was a member of the Church of Christ. |

The family was living on the Jasper/Newton County lines in Texas when the twins were born. This is where their names came from. Newton was married to Laura Ophelia Jones on October 15, 1890 in Jewell, Eastland County, Texas. They had one daughter when Newt died, but Laura was pregnant with their second child, a son that was born 6 months later. Newt was breaking horses and was thrown. His leg was broken, with the bone going into the ground. The bone and the wound were not cleaned properly which caused gangrene to sit in. He died a few days later. Laura later married William J.
