He was residing at the Mansfield Nursing and Rehab center at the time of his death. Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 21, 2007 in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Eastland. Burial was in the Murray Cemetery. JD was born on January 2, 1925. He served in World War II in the Navy and was wounded in the battle of IWO JIMA. JD worked in the oil fields of West Texas until 1960 when he moved his family to Carbon, where he ranched and farmed until he retired and moved to Mineral Wells, and later to Mansfield. JD is survived by his children; daughter, Susan Sitler and family of Claremore, OK and two sons, Larry Griffin of Alvin, TX and Robin Griffin and family of Mansfield, TX; 2 brothers, 4 sisters, 7 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. | ||

Funeral services were held on Thursday March 15, 2007 in the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Murray Cemetery with Pastor Harry Grantz officiating. Mrs. Hale was born on December 23, 1916 to James Collie Nance and Anna Mae (Truman) Nance in Bomerton. She married Marvin James Hale in Cisco on April 1, 1939. The Hale's were blessed with two daughters, Patsy and Peggy Hale. Gladys enjoyed being a homemaker and was a member of the Carbon Baptist Church. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband of over 57 years Marvin Hale on August 2, 1996. Gladys is survived by her daughters; Patsy Bryant and husband Charles of Novice and Peggy Stephenson and husband Charley of White Settlement; her brothers, Raymond Nance of Abilene and Bill Warren of Wichita Falls; her sisters, Jimmie Ervin of Abilene and Jessie Chappell of Abilene; grand-children, Kevin, Karen, Kelly, Kristen, and Tonya; and great-grandchildren, Reagan, Clayton, Kaylee, Dylan, Hannah, Cole, and Drake. She will be deeply missed by her friends and family. |

Jack was born on July 15, 1945 to Billy Love and Idenia Faye (Baker) Hallmark in Gorman, TX. He was raised in Eastland on Lens St. and graduated from Eastland High School in 1963. He married Judy Robertson on March 8, 1969 and they raised their children on S. Connellee St. Jack worked for Victor Cornelius with his father for a short time and then at Coca Cola. After leaving Coca Cola he opened a flower shop in Ranger and later another in Eastland. He was the owner/operator of Hallmark Garden Center retiring in 2004, after 21 years. Jack loved to spend his spare time hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was also a Baptist. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Billy Gene Hallmark and a nephew, David Alan Nelms. He is survived by his children, Billy Jack and wife Rebecca, James Dale and wife Kristi, Nicole and Toby Sparkman, and Joseph Paul all of Eastland; grandchildren, Josh, Ryleigh, Jayton, Jesse, Grayson, Braydon and Jenna; sister, Betty and husband Gaylon Nelms of Eastland; and several other nieces, nephews and friends. | ||

Survivors include: four daughters, Doris Culp and husband James of Sylacauga Alabama, Laverne Laird and husband of Clyde, Texas, Charlotte Stennett of Bryson, Texas, and Charlene Nelms and husband Marty of Jacksboro, Texas; one son, Marvin Lee and wife Georgia of Rowlett, Texas; one sister, Evelyn Hanna of Mineral Wells, Texas; One brother, James Blue of Aledo, Texas; 30 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren. Hogan was born Aug. 11, 1932, in Eastland County and had lived in Tarrant County over 40 years. She operated Hogan Accounting in Lake Worth for many years before her retirement. She was a member of River Oaks Rebekah Lodge No. 467, the Daughters of America and the Spillway Volunteer Fire Department auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan G. Hogan, and a brother, Jim Phelps. Survivors include children, Daniel Hogan, Kay Cornelison and Leon Hogan, all of Fort Worth and Elton Hogan of Weatherford; sisters, Fay Tucker of Carbon and Elnora Lindley of Desdemona; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; and Virgil Miller, special friend, from Ft. James (Jimmy) Leon Hughes died June 12, 2004 in Eastland, TX. Services were
held at Bakker Funeral Home June 14, 2004 at 2 p.m. Rev. Jim Wright
officiated. Burial was in the Murray Cemetery, Carbon, TX. Jimmy was born
December 19, 1922, in Desdemona, TX, to James Elmer & Kizzie (Sparkman)
Hughes. He graduated from Desdemona High School & attended Ranger Junior
College, Sul Ross University, Hardin-Simmons, Southwest Texas State
University & Howard Payne. Jimmy received his BS & his Masters from Howard
Payne. He married Oma Mae McClellan on August 10, 1943, in Eastland. They
lived in Pyote & Kermit until 1954 when they moved to Carbon. They taught
school & farmed in Carbon until moving to Eastland in 1993. Oma Mae preceded
him in death in 2000. During World War II, Jimmy taught navigation in the
Army Air Corp. He taught in public schools 41 years including Carbon,
Eastland, Cisco, Ranger & Rising Star. He was the Carbon School
superintendent from 1967-74 & served as Eastland County Superintendent from
1974-78. Jimmy was a member of the Carbon Methodist Church until its
closing. He served as a Sunday School teacher & on numerous boards. At the time of his death, he was a member of First United Methodist Church of Eastland. Jimmy loved helping young people, farming & sports. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sisters, Loree Nugent & Oleta Foster; a brother, Buddy & by his grandson, Doug Hughes. He is survived by two sons & daughters-in-law, Ronnie & Karen Hughes of Clyde & Donald & Nancy Hughes of Eastland; four grandchildren, Matt Hughes & wife Brandi of Norman, Oklahoma & Georgia, Caroline & Charles Hughes of Eastland; by a great-grandson, Kobey of Norman; two sisters, Florence Tarrence of Stephenville & Imogene Rogers of Many, Louisiana; many nieces & nephews, & numerous friends & former students. |
