Transcription & Photos Submitted by Carolyn Wilson
Wilson cemetery is located about 2 ½ miles West-North West of Aubrey Denton County Texas. Going North on Main Street from the intersection of North Main Street and 428 in Aubrey go 4 tenths of a mile to Blackjack Road and turn West go another 4 tenths of a mile to Wilson Cemetery Road which turns North then go 6 tenths of a mile until it turns into Grubbs Road at this curve go thru the cattle guard and continue about ¼ mile to the cemetery entrance which is shown above.
Wilson cemetery is on two acres donated for this purpose by M. J. Wilson and wife L. M. Wilson The oldest marked grave is that of Mildred M. Wilson daughter of J. H. and Melinda Wilson b—1865 d.--1866. There are some brown sandstone rocks that are thought to be markers but they have no information on them. There are several large oak trees within the cemetery and in the spring bluebonnets and other wild flowers are abundant. Wilson cemetery is still active.

Marker of M. J. Wilson who donated the land for the cemetery | Earliest dated marker |
The cemetery does not have a historical marker yet but one of the graves is that of Frank Wilson who joined the confederate army in January of 1862 and served four months. Three of his older brothers had joined in July of 1861 and he didn’t want to be left out. But when they found out he was only 16 years old they sent him home. He was also the only family member to be born in the Republic of Texas in 1845.
Also a family friend and prominent minister of the time is buried there. Rev. Archibald C. McDougal was born in Tennessee April 13 1822 and was licensed to preach by the Methodist Church and preached his first sermon at the Annual Conference in the presence of the Bishop in 1853. The "History of the First Methodist Church Dallas Texas 1846-1946" describes him as "A man of splendid physique tall and imposing in appearance a fluent speaker and useful servant of the church." He preached his last sermon on the Third Sunday of August 1894 and died on November 4 1894 in Aubrey
Rev. Archibald C. McDougal | J. H. Wilson |
This is the marker of J. H. Wilson a Peter’s Colonist in Fannin County Texas (which later became Collin County). His land grant was near Weston Texas. He then came to Denton County sometimes shortly after 1858. He is the oldest of the Wilson family that came to Denton County and father of M. J. Wilson (who donated the land). Decoration Day is the First Sunday of May each year
