McADAMS CEMETERY
Dallas Co. Cemeteries of TX
Submitted by Juli D. Quinteros de Hernandez
DIRECTIONS: FM I-35 SOUTH, TAKE THE ILLINOIS EXIT. THE CEMETERY IS LOCATED ON A TINY DEAD-END SERVICE RD/STREET CALLED BROOK HAVEN WHICH RUNS IN FRONT OF THE JACK-IN-THE-BOX AT ILLINOIS & I-35 SOUTH. AN OFFSHOOT STREET, OHIO, CUTS OFF TO THE RIGHT OF BROOK HOLLOW TOWARDS ZANG BLVD.THE CEMETERY SITS AT THE DEAD-END OF BROOK HOLLOW & CAN BE SEEN FROM THE I-35 SOUTH FREEWAY ON THE RIGHT AS YOU COME TO THE HWY 67 TO CEDAR HILL/I-35 SOUTH TO WACO SPLIT.
NO HISTORICAL MARKER. THE ONLY MARKER THIS CEMETERY HAS IS THE NAME OF THE CEMETERY PAINTED ON A PLYWOOD BOARD PROPPED NEAR THE GATE.
HISTORY: THE FAMILIES BURIED HERE MOVED FROM TENNESSEE TO TEXAS DURING THE 1860’S & HAVE RELATIVES BURIED AT NEARBY FIVE MILE CEMETERY. THE McADAMS FAMILY AT ONE TIME OWNED THE LAND THE CEMETERY STANDS ON. TODAY, IT IS ONLY A SMALL PLOT OF LAND OFF THE I-35 SOUTH FRWY AT THE CORNERS OF BROOK HOLLOW & OHIO SURROUNDED BY APARTMENTS & BUSINESSES. AT ONE TIME, THE CEMETERY HAD A NICE BILLBOARD-STYLE SIGN WHICH GAVE THE NAME OF THE CEMETERY & THE YEARS 1882-1926 WHICH I ASSUME HAS SINCE BEEN DESTROYED AS IT’S ONLY MARKER NOW IS A HAND-PAINTED PLYWOOD SHEET WITH THE CEMETERY NAME ON IT. NO PREVIOUS CEMETERY CENSUS IS KNOWN TO EXIST. THERE ARE ALSO AT LEAST FOUR & POSSIBLY MORE UNMARKED GRAVES. FOUR STONES MARK GRAVESITES, BUT NO VISIBLE MARKERS REMAIN DUE TO VANDALS. THE UNKNOWN INFANT MAY BELONG TO THE STEWARTS AS THEY DID HAVE ONE DAUGHTER TOGETHER WHO WENT TO LIVE WITH RELATIVES AFTER HER PARENTS’ DEATHS.
INFO IN PARENTHESIS ARE TAKEN FROM MY OWN RESEARCH & DO NOT APPEAR ON THE STONE ITSELF.
