Historical Marker Established in 1902 in Gomez (then 0.5 mi. W of here), first settlement in Terry County. Original 4-acre tract was deeded to Gomez School Trustees in 1906 by pioneer settler H.F. Adams. Some of earliest settlers are buried here. Many graves were moved to Brownfield in 1918.
 

 

Location: From Brownfield, take Highway 380/82 about 5.6 miles west, then take county road about .5 miles south.

Established 1902 in Gomez. Four acre tract was deeded to Gomez School Trustees in 1906 by Pioneer Settler H. F. Adams. Some of the earliest settlers buried here. Many graves were moved to Brownfield in 1918.

To get to Gomez Cemetery from Brownfield take US Highway 82 and Texas 380 4.5 miles west. Turn left on dirt road 0.3 miles south; cemetery is on the right side of the road. Gomez Cemetery had 12 unmarked graves.

Description: Unfenced, and uncared for except for a being mowed occasionally by some careless operator, At least two of the nine remaining markers have been crushed by something. Tractor? Wide open spaces here as you can see. Complete with sand probably blown in from New Mexico. Located on dirt farm road south of Highway 82.

Nichols, Thomas Francis Ciscero - Mary Ann Nichols says that Thomas was living in Gomez when he died, but has no idea where he was buried. He died March 6, 1921. There was no visible sign of any marker for Thomas.
