This cemetery occupies 4 or 5 acres atop a hill with beautiful valley evident on 3 sides. Within the wall kept fenced area is the source of water supply. A graceful steel windmill is here with it’s storage tank setting on top of a little storehouse made of native rock.

Nell Hill of Maryneal, Texas, told us that the land was first owned by Jees Everett, then sold to Robert Lanier, who gave this site for the cemetery.

There are beautiful old style stones marking older graves. New and modern ones mark late graves. Several graves simply marked as such show no names or dates. A relative to J. G. George was buried in the large rock enclosure. No name or date is on it, however.

Mr. George also lives at Maryneal. Members of his family took care of the cemetery in earlier years.

Mrs. Hill told us that the first person buried here requested that his grave lie north and south. It is near the windmill and very noticeable because of it’s direction.

The cemetery is in Nolan County. Turn left at sign about 8 miles north of Blackwell on Highway 70. Then go 4 or 5 miles west and south. Signs give direction on the county road.
