Cemeteries of Texas Coordinator: Dolores I. Bishop

At Loyal Valley, Mason County, Texas – Just south of the County Road called House Mountain Rd. There are obviously many graves in this cemetery that are no longer marked and are just disappearing as the years go by.

Historical Marker

"German Immigrants Moritz and Auguste Lehmann settled along Squaw Creek (4 mi W) in the 1850's.  After Moritz's death, Auguste married Philip Buchmeier, on May 16, 1870.  Two of the Lehmann children, Herman (age 10) and Willie (age 8) were captured by Apache Indians.  Willie was released after five days and returned home, but Herman remained with the Apache and Comanche Indians for eight years.  He was returned to his family by U.S. Soldiers in 1878 but maintained his ties to Quanah Parker's Comanche family, into which he had been adopted, for the remainder of this life" (1991)

At Loyal Valley, Mason County, TX - Just south of county road called House Mountain Rd., and .04 mi. east of FM 2322. Listings for this Cemetery are shown in the book  'Grave & Cemeteries of Mason County'. It is also shown in the book  'Llano County Cemetery Book (at Llano County Clerks Ofc. in Llano) as the Moseley Homestead Cem.  The listings here are my own from visits to this cemetery beginning in Sept. of 2003.
There are obviously many graves in this cemetery that are no longer marked and are just disappearing as years go by.  Loyal Valley was once a thriving little community, but when the anticipated railroad did not come - the community did not continue to thrive.     ---     Carol Martin

From the Double Marker of Bertha Lehmann and Emma Lehmann in the Loyal Valley Cem., Mason Co., TX

I do not know German and some of the letters on this marker are very hard to make out (so some I’ve transcribed here may not be the correct letter), but this is a very pretty marker and maybe someone can tell us what the inscriptions say. The slashes indicate the following text is on the next line. -- Carol  Click on photo to enlarge.
