Nila Hogan Virdell
ODESSA — Nila Hogan Virdell, born October 20, 1916, in Lightner,
Concho County, Texas, the ninth child of Thomas M. and Anna Lee Davison
Hogan, died after a courageous battle on Wednesday, September 1, 2004,
in Odessa, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Ancel Lee, Manuel
L., Jewett, Jewell, Terry Eugene, Bonnie and Roy Wilson Hogan; and
sisters, Ola Hogan Garms, Vera Hogan and Neoma Hogan Jones.
Nila’s passions in life were her family and genealogy. She had traced
several of her family lines back to the Revolutionary War. Her
great-grandfather, James McKain Hogan and wife to be, Nancy P.
Arrington, came to Texas in the early 1800s. Nila was processing
documentation for the Daughters’ of the Revolutionary War and
Daughters of the Republic of Texas at the time of her death.
She was dearly loved and will be sorely missed. She is survived by her
husband of 68 years, Enoch Virdell; three daughters, Gwen Scott of
Phoenix, Ariz., Patricia Perry of Reedsport, Ore., and Darlene Delzell
of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and son, Lowell Virdell of Midland, Texas;
thirteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandson; and a large number of family and friends.
Services will at 3 p.m. Saturday, September 4, 2004, at Frank W. Wilson
Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev.
Clydel Chapman officiating.
