George Dudley Nelson
ODESSA — George Dudley Nelson 79 passed away Friday October 15, 2004
at Hospice House in Odessa.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday at Antioch Christian Church
with Rev. Don Fankhauser officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset
Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
Services entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
George Dudley Nelson was born September 22, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois to
George Dudley Nelson Sr. and Rose Marie Weingart. He served his country
in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1965 as a 1st Class Chief Petty Officer.
He married Evelyn Marie Warner on November 9, 1946 in Rakin, Illinois.
He was employed by Casualty Insurance for 18 years as a claims
specialist and Cotton Bledsoe Law Firm for 3 years as a legal assistant
and was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association.
He is preceded in death by his wife Evelyn, his parents, sisters
Rosemary Stamper, Dorothy Kearns and Marian Rengstorf
He is survived by his son Greg Nelson and wife Barbi of Houston,
daughters Kathy Gatlin and husband Gary of Andrews, Lori Aldrich and
husband Chris of Odessa, brother Arthur Nelson of Hoopeston, Ill.,
sister Ethel Goss of Farmrsville, TX, grandchildren Chad Gatlin, Erin
Cole, Alanna Nelson, Kristi Ali and Chance Aldrich.
His strengths and wisdom and love for his family will never be
forgotten. He was our example, mentor and hero. We will miss his smile,
laughter and gentle touch. Our world will be smaller and more lonely,
but our loss is Heavens gain.
