Opal Sims
ODESSA — Opal Sims, 82, of Odessa, passed away August 17, 2004, at
Parks Methodist Retirement Village in Odessa.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, August 21, in
Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Dick Brown officiating.
Pallbearers are Donnie Riley, Josh Riley, Mike Sims, Darin Riley, Lynn
McIntosh and Don Driver Jr.
Opal was born March 28, 1922, in Hamlin, Texas, to John and Bertha
Hopper. On August 21, 1939, she married Jack Sims in Odessa. They moved
to Anchorage, Alaska in 1961. One of her proudest moments was when she
became the president of the Anchorage Petroleum Wives Bridge Club. Opal
was a homemaker. She moved back to Odessa in 1989 where she lived the
remainder of her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Jeanette Driver and husband, Don, of
Odessa; son, Jack Sims and wife, Sherry, of Anchorage, AK; sister, Helen
McKiearnan of Odessa; uncle, Paul Cain of Sweetwater; grandchildren,
Josh Riley of San Antonio, Jamie and Mike Sims of Anchorage;
great-grandchildren, Jim, Andy, Darin, and Melody Riley; and by her
family at Parks Methodist Retirement Village who helped take care of her
for the past 15 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1984 and by her mother in
1996.
Memorials may be made to Parks Methodist Retirement Village in Odessa.
Services are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
