ODESSA LaRue Tucker, 74, of Odessa, Texas, was called home on November
1, 2004 following a stay at the Hospice House of Odessa. Services will
be held Wednesday, November 3 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Luke’s United
Methodist Church in Odessa with the Rev. Kevin Bushart officiating.
There will be a reception following in the church parlor.
LaRue was born on June 22, 1930 in Big Spring, Texas. She graduated from
Odessa High School and married her high school sweetheart, Tommy Tucker
on July 31, 1950. They had one daughter, Terri Ann, born on September
21, 1951.
Thru the years, LaRue had been involved with numerous organizations such
as Beta Sigma Phi, the Ladies Golf Association at Odessa Country Club
and Meals on Wheels. In the 1980’s she founded the Kickapoo Indian
Christmas, that began with a van load of supplies and ultimately became
a semi truck load of supplies. She was asked to serve on the Native
American Indian Board in Washington, D.C. and continued to follow it’s
progress through the years. Also during this time, she visited local and
area elementary and junior high schools to promote and educate children
on Indian lifestyles and traditions.
In recent years she was most actively involved in her role as
“Granny” to her grandchildren, Chantel and Shallen Conner and her
great granddaughter Abbey LaRue Conner. She hosted numerous “tea
parties, princess picnics and finger painting sessions”.
LaRue was a loyal daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great
grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She was constantly going
above and beyond the call of duty to help others.
She was proceeded in death by her husband and best friend, Tommy Tucker,
her parents Eldora and Q.L. “Shorty” Hall, two brothers, Don T. Hall
and James Sims. She is survived by her daughter and loving son-in-law,
Terri and Jerry Conner, granddaughters Chantel Conner and Shallen Conner
of Austin, and great granddaughter Abbey LaRue Conner and sister Barbara
Ann Mitchell and sister-in-law Dorothy Hall and numerous nieces,
nephews, cousins and friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Daniel O’Hearn and staff, Dr.
Ghanta, and the staff of Medical Center Hospital and the Hospice House
of Odessa for their loving care.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Hospice House of
Odessa.
