Elsie Eugenia ‘Jeannie’ Miles

ODESSA — “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid out for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” II Timothy 4:7-8.
Jeannie Miles went to be with her Lord on Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, at Regency Hospital in Odessa. She was 74.
Jeannie was born Oct. 23, 1929, in Robert Lee, Texas, to James Lawrence and Willie Louise Cochran. She moved to Odessa as a teenager and graduated from Odessa High School in 1948. She met Wilburn Miles at the Henderson Drug Store, and they married on Aug. 23, 1948. They shared nearly 56 years together. Jeannie worked as a tax preparer and bookkeeper and ran Miles Income Tax Service.
Jeannie was a voracious reader. She read anything from classics to the Reader’s Digest. However she was most avid about reading her Bible. When it came to Bible knowledge, she had the edge on anyone around. She held longtime membership at Crescent Park Baptist Church. Jeannie was a great caretaker. Selflessly, she devoted her life to care for all those around her. However, a few years ago, when she suffered a stroke, Jeannie found herself on the receiving end of her years of caring and kindness. Although she was appreciative, the role reversal left her a bit agitated.
Jeannie’s parents; and her brother, Don Wesley Cochran Sr., preceded her in death.
Jeannie is survived by her husband, Wilburn Miles of Odessa; son, Buddy Miles and wife Keeney of Odessa; daughters, Lynne Norwood and husband Donnie of Odessa, Mary Gail Glover and husband Rickey of Brownwood and Deborah Foster of Odessa; brothers, Gary Cochran and wife Connie of Jasper, Gayle Cochran and James L. Cochran Jr. and wife Kathleen, all of Odessa; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren
The family will receive visitors from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Services will be held on at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, at Crescent Park Baptist Church with Dr. Johnny Dickerson officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to Crescent Park Baptist Church.
Arrangements entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
