Goldie Marie Martin
ODESSA — Goldie Marie Martin, 84, passed away Wednesday, October 6,
2004, at Hospice House in Odessa.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at Sunset
Memorial Gardens.
Services entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Marie was born October 19, 1919, in Cottle County, Texas, to Carl Oliver
Detwiler and Eva Sapfronia Huffstetler.
She ran a cattle ranch in Arkansas, while she worked as a cook for a
Mississippi River barge. There were articles written about her in Time
Magazine and Readers Digest.
She married George William Martin on November 22, 1938, in Rio Grande
City, Texas.
Her life revolved around her family as they enjoyed her great sense of
humor.
She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and brother, Carl
Lewis Detwiler.
She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Martin of Odessa; brother,
Theodore Detwiler of Harlingen; sisters, Adele Ray Hoffman of Perryman
Tenn., and Mildred Detwiler of Richmond, Va.; grandchildren, Melanie
Winchester and husband, Danny and Cindy Hunt and husband, Bill;
great-grandchildren, Michael Montgomery Winchester and Jennifer Alise
Winchester; nieces and nephews, Sherry Snyder, Debbie Pennington and
Larry Kargl; and cousins and other family and friends.
