Liliana Verner, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away at her home in Arlington, TX, on Sunday, May 30, 2004.
Liliana was born in Naples, Italy, January 2, 1924. During World War II, she met Hugh Verner, an American soldier stationed in Italy.
They married on Oct. 28, 1945, in Naples and honeymooned on the Isle of Capri. She joined her husband in Odessa in 1946. She became an American citizen and helped to welcome other war brides in the area. She was a founding member of The International Club, made up of other brides from foreign countries. She often was called on to speak at local schools and civic organizations about her homeland and her experiences during the war. Although she lived in Texas for nearly 60 years, she never lost her accent and told her family that the language in her dreams was Italian. She moved to Arlington, TX, in 2002 to be near her daughter, Kim.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Verner in 1987; her father, Antonio Crivelli, mother, Elena Crivelli; and sister, Marina Leggiero, all of Italy.
