Melba Evelyn Perkins

MESQUITE — Services for Melba Evelyn Perkins, 88, of Mesquite, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at Christian Care Center Church of Christ in Mesquite. Burial is scheduled the following day at 10 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park in Odessa. Services are under direction of Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point. Melba passed away June 11, 2004, in Mesquite.
Melba Evelyn Perkins was born the youngest of three daughters in Marshall, Texas on March 25, 1916, to the late Ernest and Lola Scoggin. She grew up in Winnsboro, Texas, where she met James Edward Perkins whom she married on December 19, 1937. He preceded her in death on October 13, 1989. She spent her life as a devoted Christian wife and homemaker who instilled in her children her faith and a love of music and singing. Her sweet and thoughtful manner endeared her to her family and many friends. She loved to study the Bible and to share its message with others. Mrs. Perkins was a faithful member of the Church of Christ almost all of her adult life. After living in Odessa, Texas, where she was a member of the Parkview congregation for over 40 years, she resided at the Christian Care Center in Mesquite for over 11 years.
She is preceded in death by her son, James Michael Perkins, who died November 19, 1986.
She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Diane and Don Hiett of Dallas and Kitty and Ron Thrift of Garland; one grandson, Jeffery Thrift; four granddaughters and their husbands, Lisa and Ronnie Kimbrell, Julie and Tim Sharp, Donna and Tim Hall and Stacey and David Warner; granddaughter, Julie Thrift; nine great-grandchildren, Lauren and Caroline Kimbrell, Jessica, Jordan, and Dylan Sharp, Kate and Nicole Hall, and Katy and Dylan Warner; and three nieces and one nephew, Linda Bergamini, Janice Shirah, Becky Peurifoy and David Beezley.
Family visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday evening at Anderson/Clayton Brothers Funeral Home in Mesquite.
