Reed W. McFarland
ODESSA — Services for Reed McFarland will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday,
July 22, 2004, at 1st Christian Church with the Rev. Diane L. Garrett
officiating.
Reed was born February 28, 1909, in Washburn, Texas, to William Watkins
McFarland and Mary Ode McFarland. Reed died July 20, at the Odessa
Hospice House.
Mr. McFarland was married August 31, 1927, to Juanita Pybus in
Clarendon, Texas.
The family moved to Goldsmith in 1936. Reed was a driller for Bass &
Kelly Drilling Company. Mr. McFarland began to teach in the National
Defense School. When the school disbanded, they donated their shop to
Odessa High School in 1941. Mr. Mac, as he was known to his students,
was asked to teach the machine shop and welding, later adding mechanics
to his duties. Mr. McFarland received his final degree from Eastern New
Mexico University. He taught at Odessa High School for 26 years. He was
Director of Physical Facilities at Odessa College for 11 years.
Mr. Mac had many hats. A major in the Civil Air Patrol, a 32 degree
Mason for the Blue Lodge #955 and Scottish Rites where he was a member
for 50 years. He was a member of the Lions Club and a 50-year member of
the 1st Christian Church. He was a pilot for many years, a member of the
Antique Automobile Association, Retired Teachers Association and the
National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors.
Reed was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita, in 1990 and by his
daughter-in-law, Janis Ann McFarland, in 2002.
He is survived by his two sons, Billy G. McFarland of Odessa and Michael
Reed McFarland of Malakoff, Texas; three grandchildren, Judith Ann
Martin of Grapevine, Jearold G. McFarland of Odessa and Robert C.
McFarland of Wylie, Texas; daughter-in-law, Jannine McFarland of Wylie,
Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
The family of Reed McFarland wished to express their gratitude to CoCo
Noll and her family for their love and friendship in these later years.
Mr. McFarland had many friends who have expressed their friendship
through cards and letters and visits the last six months.
Family visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 21,
2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial
Gardens.
Funeral services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
