Lovetta Fern Routh Massey

ODESSA — Lovetta Fern Routh Massey went home to be with the Lord on June 15, 2004.
She was the eldest of six children, born Sept. 8, 1926, to Roy Newton Routh and Vera Beatrice Mefford Routh.
She married Cleveland Eugene Massey on Oct. 8, 1949, in Raton, N.M. He preceded her in death in 1995. She was also preceded in death by her brother Nathan Routh.
Her survivors include son, Billy Don Massey of Odessa; son, Jimmy Massey and wife Kay of Michigan; daughter, Janice Freeman and husband Tom of Newport News, Va.; son, Joe Massey and wife Rhonda of Arlington, Texas; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by one sister, Lorene Owens of Odessa; and one brother, Douglas Routh of California.
She was raised in Gould, Okla. Mrs Massey graduated from Trinidad Junior College in 1948 and taught for four years before moving to Texas in the mid-50s. She graduated Sul Ross University at Alpine in August of 1962 with an Education Degree.
She dedicated her life to teaching the young. She retired after 34 years of teaching for Ector County Independent School District. Beginning in the fall of 1962 at Austin Elementary until mid-term, then she moved to Travis Elementary. She retired from Travis Elementary in May 1992.
She was a member of Vine Baptist Church in Odessa.
There will be a visitation from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, June 21, 2004 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Travis Elementary Library or your favorite charity.
