He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Margie McDougal Marrs of Odessa; and his daughters and sons-in-law, Lou Ann and Gary Wilkerson of Comanche and Loree and Mike Britt of Midland. His sister, Billie Marrs Green of Loyalton, Calif., mourns his passing, as do the grandchildren in whom L.J. placed so much pride. They are Sarah Grace Britt of Midland, Chris Ingram and Deborah Pavlik, both of Tomball, Josh Wilkerson, Jennifer Michael, Kaitlyn and Morgan, all of Comanche, and Ryan Britt of Dallas; step-granddaughter, Amanda Blissard and step-great-granddaughter, Myka Blissard, both of Big Spring. In addition to those listed, L.J. is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
Born April 11, 1922, in Oil City, Texas, L.J. moved to Odessa in September 1926. Mr. Marrs loyally served both his country and those he loved during his 82 years of life. From North Africa to France, Corsica and Japan, L.J. fought with the U.S. Army in WWII.
As a dedicated family man, L.J. provided for his children by owning and operating Marrs Steam Service from 1960 until his retirement in 1985. L.J. Marrs was a congregation member and deacon at the First Christian Church of Odessa, Texas.
In later life, he remained active in his community, participating in the Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary, the Old Timer’s Club and the Cancer Support Group of the American Cancer Society, as well as being a lifelong member of the American Legion.
