Horace Edward Gummelt
ODESSA — Horace Edward Gummelt, 85, went to be with the Lord Friday,
July 23, 2004.
He was born Aug. 28, 1918, to Otto and Annie Gummelt in Star, Texas.
Ed served his country in World War II in North Africa and France. He
retired as an operator from Sid Richardson, then later retired after 20
years of service as a custodian for the Ector County Independent School
District at Permian High School.
He moved to Odessa in 1950 from Lamesa and was married Sept. 7, 1962, to
Audrey Freeman Gummelt in El Reno, Okla.. He was a charter member of
Central Baptist Church and a member of the V.F.W.
His parents; wife; brother, O.B. Gummelt; his sisters, Ola Mae Waddell,
Eda Reed and Eula Pearl Waddell all preceded in death.
Survivors include brothers, Earl Gummelt and Bill Gummelt, both of
Odessa; sisters Gertrude Green, Lorene Gummelt and Doris McCasland, all
of Odessa; and stepson, John Freeman of Odessa; and numerous nieces and
nephews.
Family visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly
Funeral Home.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at Hubbard-Kelly
Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Johnson officiating. Burial will
be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Gene Waddell, Bobby Reed, Sherman Reed, Gerald
Gummelt, Casey Reed and Jeff Reed.
Memorials may be donated in lieu of flowers to Central Baptist Church
building fund at 1401 N. Texas Ave., Odessa.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
