Williamson
ODESSA — Joe Williamson, 82, of Odessa passed away Sunday, Dec. 28,
2003, while visiting family in Boise, Idaho.
Joe was born July 25, 1921, in Okmulgee, Okla. He graduated from
Okmulgee High School in 1938 and began work in the oil industry. He
married Helen Donnell in 1941 in Sapulpa, Okla.
At the outbreak of World War II Joe joined the Navy and became a Seabee.
He saw extensive action in the Pacific to include Guadalcanal and
Okinawa. He was very proud of his military service and was an active
member of his Seabees Veterans group throughout his life. After the war,
Joe returned to the oil industry in sales and manufacturing and
eventually became a partner or the sole owner of several businesses to
include Skytop, Midway, Challenger and Tillery and Parks. He ended his
career as the sole owner of Williamson Oil & Gas. Joe was active in
the Eastside Rotary Club, Meals on Wheels and several other community
organizations. He was an active member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church.
Joe is survived by his wife, Helen, of Odessa; son Randy Williamson of
Boise, Idaho; and daughter, Donna Wheeler and husband, Gene, of Suwanee,
Ga. Four grandsons, Neal and John Williamson of Jackson, Calif., Brian
Wheeler and wife, Traci, of Horn Lake, Miss., and Greg Wheeler of
Marietta, Ga.; and granddaughter Abby Williamson of Boise. He also has
two great-granddaughters, Chelsea and Amber Wheeler of Horn Lake.
His grandsons and friends Walter Banisky and Charles Foote will serve as
pallbearers.
Services will be held at noon Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly
Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kevin Bushart officiating. Interment
will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
