Dorthy Marie Akin

ODESSA — Dorthy Marie Akin, age 77, of Odessa, passed away Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating.
Dorthy was born July 11, 1926, in Solway, Minn., to Leo J. Raiter and Evelyn Herrick Raiter.
She moved to Wink, Texas, in 1947. She married Johnnie A. Brooks, and they had two children. On Dec. 11, 1964, she married Jim Akin in Crane, Texas. They enjoyed 16 years of marriage together until his passing on March 29, 1981. She worked for Cagle Fishing Tool Company for 10 years. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagle Auxiliary 2914 of Odessa.
She is survived by her loving companion, Calvin Wester of Odessa; sisters, Patricia Zimmerman of Wisconsin and Audree Norton of Minnesota; brothers, William Raiter of Minnesota, Bernard Raiter of Illinois and Richard Raiter of Virginia; daughter, Vikki Brooks Thiebaud of Odessa; daughter-in-law Penelope Hopkins of San Diego, Calif.; step-children, James Akin Jr. of Andrews and Ruby Helen Smith of Andrews; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Raiter; sister,Myrna Raiter; and her son, Johnny Ricky Brooks.
Services are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
