ODESSA — Hershel L. Montgomery, 67, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 30,
2003, at Hospice House in Odessa.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at Sunset
Memorial Chapel with his brother, Bart Montgomery, and brother-in-law,
Boyd Whitehead, officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial
Gardens.
Hershey was born Feb. 17, 1936, in Roswell, N.M., to James and May
Montgomery. He married K on July 6, 1958. He and K resided in Odessa for
45 years. Hershey often told his daughters “When the day is over, and
I haven’t met a new friend, then my day is worthless.” Many will
remember him for his generous heart. He and K shared a love for
football; especially loved the Cowboys, despite K’s advice. He also
enjoyed his grandbabies, crosswords, friends and a life long love for
the “oil patch.”
His wife and parents preceded him in death.
Hershey is survived by his daughters, Traci Ward and husband Jimmy of
Pearland and Kelli Troup and husband Brad of Houston; brother, Bart
Montgomery of Alabama; sister, Bonnie Sue Whitehead of Altus, Okla.; and
four grandchildren, Dustin Blair of Norman, Okla., Casey Blair of
Levelland and Alexandria and Kassidy Troup, both of Houston.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to Odessa
Hospice.
Services are under the care of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
