R.S. "Mr. Scribby" Baker, Sr.
Stonewall Cemetery
STONEWALL, LA - Funeral services for R.S. Baker, Sr., affectionately known as "Mr. Scribby", will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 17, 2006 at Salem Baptist Church where he was the longest living member. Reverend Stan McGee will preside, assisted by Mr. Baker's son, Chaplain, LTC. Rob Baker. Rev. Charles Hall will conduct the graveside service. Interment will follow in Stonewall Cemetery, Stonewall, LA. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Sunday, April 16, 2006 at Rose-Neath's Southside Funeral Home.
Mr. Baker was born August 12, 1929 in Stonewall, LA to the late Joseph and Huldah Baker. He passed away Friday, April 14, 2006 in Shreveport, LA at the age of 76.
Mr. Baker was an active civic leader and member of various commissions and boards. He was born at the Baker Farm in 1929 and lived and farmed there his entire 76 years.
Mr. Baker loved and was immensely proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He leaves behind many loyal friends who will greatly miss him.
Mr. Baker is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nan Ellen Baker; his sons, Robert S. Baker, Jr. and wife, Beverly, and Rev.Michael C. Baker and wife, Kay; his daughter, Rebecca Thompson; his sister, Orelle Hinton and husband, Paul; his brothers, Joseph Lee Baker, Jr. and wife, Jane, Forrest Baker and wife, Marcille; his grandchildren, Kimberly Ann Baker, Christopher Alan Baker, Elizabeth Calcote Patterson and husband, Rodney, Jody Michael Baker and wife, Melissa, John Lindsey Thompson, Lauren Leigh Thompson; and great-grandchildren, Kaleigh, Madelyn, Jacob and Emily.
Pallbearers will be Barry Dyson, Philip Buckalew, Jim Burford, Donald Gasper, Austin Dickerson and Rodney Patterson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Roach, Bobby Dyson, Madison Box, Curtis McCune, Pat Loftus, J.D. Pennywell, William Lee McCune and James Burford.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Salem Baptist Church, 109 Church Road, Stonewall, LA 71078 or to Living Water Worship Center, 172 Woolworth Road, Stonewall, LA 71078.
