Betty Armstrong Woods
Pelican Cemetery
MANSFIELD, LA - Funeral services will be conducted last Saturday, October 28, 2006, at 2 p.m. in the Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Mansfield for Betty Armstrong Woods, 67, of Pelican, with Doris Sheppard, pastor of the Pelican United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Pelican Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday at Rose-Neath.
She was born in Thief River Falls, MN, and passed away at her residence in Pelican Tuesday night, October 17 after a prolonged battle with cancer.
Mrs. Woods was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas G. Woods; father, Harry Arthur Armstrong Sr.; survivors are one son, Steve and wife Judy, of Pelican, one daughter, Brenda Watts, of Pelican, three grandchildren, Steven Bissell, Thomas Lynn Crawford and Kerri Nicole Woods; three great-grandchildren, Alex and Jayden Crawford and Sam Bissell, mother, Mary Ann Kruse Armstrong, and four brothers.
Pallbearers are Julian Davis, Bobby Hanbrick, Bobby West, Kenny Leger, Roger Hebert and Thurman Marr. Betty was graduated from Thief River High School and attended the University of Alaska. After moving to DeSoto Parish, she served as bookkeeper for Mansfield Publishing Company and returned to Alaska in 1975 for two and one-half years where she was employed by a pipeline company as secretary-treasurer. Upon her return to Pelican, she began a 22-year career as secretary-treasurer of the DeSoto Parish Police Jury (treasurer when the jobs were split in 1984). She has been on sick leave since March 2005 from the police jury.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of choice.
