Edward Eugene Hatcher
Highland Cemetery, Mansfield
CARMEL, LA - A beloved husband, father and grandfather, Edward Eugene Hatcher, 73, of Carmel went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, April 25, 2006.
A life-long resident of Desoto parish, Eugene was born March 5, 1933 in the Lula community. He was the youngest child of William Marshall Hatcher and Buna Bissell Hatcher. After completing his military service in the U.S. Army, Eugene returned home and married Clara Rascoe on March 9, 1956. He worked for Beaird Industries where he excelled in his profession as a machinist. He retired after 38 years with the company. A father of three, Eugene was an ordained deacon at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Mansfield and in recent years at Carmel Baptist church in the Carmel community. Eugene and Clara recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
He is survived by his wife, Clara Hatcher; children, Lisa Savell and husband Ronnie Savell of Carmel, Russell Hatcher and wife Michele Hatcher of Fayetteville, Georgia, and Martin Hatcher and wife Tracy Hatcher of Jonesboro, Arkansas; eight grandchildren, Marsha Savell Bell and husband Daniel of Stonewall, Brandon Savell and wife Stephanie of Stonewall, Micah, Layne, Lauren and Ethan Hatcher of Fayetteville, Georgia and Danielle and Kourtney Hatcher of Jonesboro, Arkansas; and three great-grandchildren, Camryn and Collin Bell of Stonewall and Bailey Savell of Stonewall. He is also survived by one brother, Henry Hatcher and two sisters, Gladys Pixley and Marjorie Hayes, all of Mansfield.
Funeral Services will be held April 27 at 2 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield in Mansfield. Burial and graveside will be at Highland Cemetery in Mansfield. Officiating will be Pastor Delman Rogers of Carmel Baptist Church, John Harp, associate pastor Brookwood Baptist Church and Daniel Bell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 1403, Mansfield, LA 71052 or the American Cancer Society.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to Dr. Robert Massingill, Dr. Paul Schuler and the staff at Willis-Knighton Hospital for their compassion and care given to Eugene during his illness.
