Dr. James N. Gray, III
Grand Cane Cemetery, DeSoto Parish, LA
GRAND CANE, LA - Funeral services for James N. Gray, III., will be on Monday, October 30, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Chapel. Burial will follow in Grand Cane Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, October 29, 2006 from 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Jimmy was born on November 30, 1927 in Alexandria, Louisiana to the parents, James N. Gray Jr., and Ethel Pittman Gray. He graduated from Bolton High School and joined the Navy where they trained him as a Corpsman. He served in the Navy from 1945 to 1947 and then again from 1951 to 1952. He married Phalamae Cromwell on 12/20/50. This union produced one son, James N. Gray IV, who married Tamara Rudd. James and his wife have two daughters, Phyllis Kay, and Meghan Nichole.
Jimmy began his teaching career at Springhill High School and transferred to Linwood Junior High where he taught until 1969 when he was appointed Principal of Fairfield Elementary School. Jimmy holds degrees from Northwestern State College, The University of Arkansas, and his Doctorate from the University of Mississippi. He retired from Caddo Public Schools on January 1, 1980. He enjoyed a camp on the Gulf where he spent time fishing and duck hunting. As a side line he worked in home remodeling, roofing, farming, and gardening.
