Stuart H. Burris
FRIERSON, LA - A private memorial service celebrating the life of Stuart Hebert Burris was held on Monday, December 1, 2008 at 11 am on Shuqualak Farms. The Pastor Denver Ebert of Frierson, Louisiana, officiated the service. Stu passed away on November 29, 2008. He was born on June 5, 1924 in Shreveport, Louisiana, the son of Dr. William Blake Burris and Vera Hebert Burris. Stu attended LSU and graduated from Centenary College in 1949. His many interests included high diving, hunting, basketball and flying. He retired from the Wolfolk Chemical Company after 40 years and received numerous awards. After retirement, Stu and his wife Sug moved to their family farm in Frierson, Louisiana and became one of the early farmers to introduce blueberries to the local area and began what is now the popular Shuqualak Farms. He was on the Board of Directors and past president of the Ark-La-Tex Blueberry Growers Association. Stu made every one feel welcome and those who knew him appreciated his easy going personality. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Marie "Sug" Burris, his 4 children, Stuart Hebert Burris, Jr. and wife Anita of Dallas, Texas, Gay Burris Whatley and husband David of St. Simons Island, Georgia, George Blake Burris and wife Nancy "Riz" of Dallas, Texas, William Broox Burris and wife Judy of Frierson, Louisiana and close family friend Scott Fort of Dallas, Texas, six grandchildren, Tiffany Whatley Smith, Trudy and Dayton Whatley, Stuart Hebert Burris III, Parker and Lindsay Burris and three great grandchildren, Bryce Smith, Riley and Stuart Burris IV.
