Nellie Beatrice Walker Montpelier

Stonewall Cemetery

STONEWALL, LA- Nellie Montpelier, widow of James "Ed" Montpelier was born on July 28, 1913 in Boyce, LA left her family and friends on July 21, 2008 after a lengthy illness. The funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2008 at Salem Baptist Church in Stonewall. Bro. Stan McGee pastor of Salem Baptist, Bro. Charles Hall former pastor of Salem Baptist and Bro. Skip Palmer chaplain of Jordan's Crossing will be officiating with burial to follow at Stonewall Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at Rose-Neath South Funeral Home in Shreveport, LA.

Nellie "Mrs. Nell" came to Stonewall in June 1950, along with her family. She united with Salem Baptist Church and served faithfully as a Deacon's wife, Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher, WMU member, and Sunday School class secretary. She worked in the Stonewall High School Cafeteria and delivered fresh eggs to the homes in Shreveport, where she became known as the "egg lady". Her last job was custodian at Salem Baptist Church from the early 1960's until 2002, when she retired at 89 years of age. Nellie was an excellent seamstress making clothes for her family and friends. She loved to crochet and quilt, leaving many in her family things to remember her by. She enjoyed playing games at the Stonewall Town Hall every Friday with her friends. She also loved feeding the birds and squirrels in her yard.

Nellie was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years; infant twin boys, Jackson Andrew and Joseph Elliott; her parents, Joe and Mary Walker; sisters, Willie Hirsch and Georgia Brister and brothers, John and Joe Walker.

She is survived by her son, Charles Montpelier and wife, Bonnie Gale of Marthaville, LA; daughters, Nancy McCune and husband, Curtis and Cecilia Ketchum and husband, Willie of Stonewall; and sister, Ruby Holsomback of Pineville, La.

She also leaves 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Jimmy McCune, Mark Ketchum, Donald Gasper, John Copeland, Benjamin Weeks, and great-grandson Cody Copeland.

Honorary pallbearers will be the remaining great-grandsons.

The family would like to thank the Jordan's Crossing team, Kristen, Danielle, Dr. McClintock, Skip, Angie, Crushanda and Sheira, for being a part of our family by providing countless hours of help and support. A special thanks to Traci Droddy for her many nights.
