William Jacob Derrick, III
Smyrna Community Cemetery, Grand Cane
SHREVEPORT, LA- William Jacob Derrick, III, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008, after a brief illness. His body will lie in state at Osborn Funeral Home on Thursday, May 29th, after 10:00 a.m. Graveside services will be held at Smyrna Community Cemetery near Grand Cane, LA, on Friday, May 30, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. Memorial services will follow at Broadmoor Presbyterian Church, 1950 Grover Place, Shreveport, LA, at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2008. Reverends David Laverty and Dianne Brown will officiate.
Born in DeSoto Parish on May 2, 1928, Mr. Derrick was a resident of Shreveport for over 50 years. A true patriot, he served in the U.S. Navy for two years, after which time he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He completed Officer Candidate School. Mr. Derrick retired from the Air Force Reserve in 1979 having attained the rank of Lt. Colonel. He was a practicing CPA until his death. He was a dedicated member of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church where he served faithfully in various capacities over many years.
Mr. Derrick was preceded in death by his wife and sweetheart of 53 years, Linda Mason Derrick, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William J. Derrick, Jr. He is survived by two daughters, Dimity Derrick Greer and Cara Derrick Butler; two grandsons, William Vance Greer and Douglas Hamilton Greer; and his three siblings, Mrs. Janelle Burford, Mrs. Charles Smith, and Mr. Kenneth Derrick.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Broadmoor Presbyterian Church or Smyrna Community Cemetery.
