Andrew Duke McGlathery, Jr.

O. E. Price Cemetery, Logansport

LOGANSPORT, LA - Funeral services for Andrew Duke McGlathery, Jr., 82, will be held Sunday, November 23, 2008, at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church in Logansport, LA. Officiating will be Rev. Kemper Smith, Rev. Charles Hall and J. Benjamin Vaughan. Burial will follow in O. E. Price Cemetery. Visitation will be at First United Methodist Church from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Saturday, November 22, 2008.

Andy was born January 16, 1926 in Logansport, LA to Andrew Duke and Irma Ruth McGlathery; he was called home to be with his Lord on November 20, 2008, with his family by his side in Shreveport, LA. A loving and devoted husband, father, and papa, Andy was a faithful friend to many. He attended Louisiana State University for two years. He still holds the highest record in Marksmanship for the LSU rifle team, which he received in the National Rifle Marksmanship Competition. He proudly served his country in the ARMY during WWII fighting in three European Battle Campaigns. Andy was a lifelong member of the First Untied Methodist Church. He was past Mayor serving the town of Logansport, which he cherished, for two terms; and also served two terms as City Councilman. He was one of the oldest members of the American Legion Post 157 of Logansport and he was a 32nd degree Mason in the Mount Vernon Lodge #83 in Logansport. He and his brother Frank were co-owners of the Logansport Flying School. He was owner/operator of Duke's Furniture and Appliance Company, which has been family owned since 1936.

Preceding Andy in death were his beloved wife, Jonnie Sue Holder McGlathery; his loving parents; brother, Frank Glen McGlathery; and nephew Frank Keo McGlathery. Left behind to cherish his memory are his son, Andrew Duke McGlathery, III and wife Jeanne; daughter Susan McGlathery Dodd and husband Charles; grandchildren Amy Dodd Martin and husband Charles, Shelley Ann McGlathery, Matthew Baer McGlathery, Lauren Elizabeth McGlathery, Tiffany Anne McGlathery; great grandchildren Abigail Rose Martin and Audrey Elizabeth Martin; sisters Lela McGlathery Tucker and Lydia McGlathery Ehrhardt and husband Nevel; a host of nieces and nephews and special friends Janet Timmons, Tammy Timmons and Carol Gurley.

Honoring Andy as pallbearers will be Duke Ehrhardt, Keo Ehrhardt, Russell Williams, Christopher Vaughan, Patrick Vaughan, John Russell, and Charlie Leflett.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Tommy Brown and his wonderful staff.
