Eleanor Noble Washnock

MANSFIELD, LA- Eleanor Noble Washnock, a life-long resident of Mansfield, went to the Lord on April 28. In three weeks she would have been 93. She was born on May 19, 1915 in Mena, Arkansas to Oscar and Maye Noble. She was educated in DeSoto parish. After graduating from Mansfield High School she became a beautician and worked for a beauty shop in Mansfield. In 1942 she married Andrew Dave Washnock, her husband of 50 years who passed away in 1992. In 1970 she began working for the DeSoto Parish Police Jury. She not only cared about her fellowman, but also dedicated this 24-year career toward helping others. As head of the food stamp program she touched many lives. A committed servant of God, Eleanor was also a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mansfield. Eleanor had six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Survivors are two sons, David Noble Washnock and Billy Wayne Washnock of Valdosta, Georgia and one daughter, Ann Platt of Shreveport. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2008, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 2, at Highland Cemetery in Mansfield. Eleanor will be remembered by those who knew and loved her as "a peacemaker, an old-fashioned mom, a civil servant, an avid reader, a passionate traveler, and as a woman who loved her church."
