Melvin "Babe" Stephens

LOGANSPORT, LA - Funeral services for Babe Stephens, 83, of the Pine Grove Community will be held at Rose-Neath Chapel in Logansport, LA on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 10:00 AM with Bro. Wayne Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Logansport, Louisiana.
Babe Stephens, the son of the late Melvin and Beulah Stephens, was born September 29, 1925 in Logansport, Louisiana and passed away on January 1, 2009. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Beulah Stephens, father Melvin Stephens, brother Jimmie Stephens, Luke Stephens, Eddie "Blue" Stephens, Henry Stephens, Wilmer "Buck", and sister Clois "Blondie" Stephens Metcalf and by a son Danny Lynn Stephens, killed in action in Vietnam in 1968.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Hazel Henry Stephens; daughters Lucy Pitts and husband James of Logansport, Melba Townsend and husband Gene of Logansport; sons Jimmy Stephens and wife Sandra of Logansport, Wallace Stephens of Logansport, and Jack Stephens of Joaquin, Texas. Thirteen grandchildren- Tammy Claybrook and husband Ernest Claybrook Jr., Kim Jergins and husband David, Lynn Stephens and wife Angie, Dane Blount and wife Miranda, Jeffrey Glaze and wife Joyce, Danny Wayne Stephens, and wife Brianna, Josh Glaze, April Arbuckle and husband Lee J., Ava Stephens, Tony Pitts and wife Dianne, Tammy Clark and husband Chris, Clint Townsend and wife Stacey, Latonya Hooter and husband Anthony, twenty-six great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers are grandsons, Lynn Stephens, Dane Blount, Jeffery Glaze, Danny Wayne Stephens, Josh Glaze, and Ernest Claybrook Jr., Honorary pallbearers are David Jergins, Lee J. Arbuckle, Tony Pitts, and Clint Townsend.
Babe went to sleep on December 22, 2008 and woke up in a new year on January 1, 2009 in Heaven with the Lord Jesus Christ and his beloved family who has preceded him in death.
