BENTON, LA - Services for Mr. Harry R. Stevens,
age 84, will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at 1:00 PM in Red River
Baptist Church near Benton, LA with Bro. James Hoover officiating with
military graveside rites by the 12th District, Department of LA, Veterans of
Foreign Wars Honor Guard and Masonic graveside rites by the Benton Masonic
Lodge #89 F & AM. Interment will follow in the Cottage Grove Cemetery near
Benton under the direction of Bailey Mortuary, Plain Dealing, LA.
Visitation will begin at 6pm until 8pm at Bailey Mortuary, Plain Dealing,
LA.
Mr. Stevens was born in Groes-beck, TX, November 1, 1921 and died April 16,
2006. He served in the U.S. Army in New Guinea and the Philippines during
WWII as a medic. Mr. Stevens was a retired rural mail carrier, a deacon, a
member of American Legion, D.A.V., V.F.W., Masonic Lodge, Benton Volunteer
Fire Dept. and volunteer Bossier Parish Sheriff's Posse and Operation
Blessing.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Billie; son, Barry Stevens and wife,
Beverly; granddaughters, Regan S. Thrasher and husband, Drew of Lake
Charles, Nicole Stevens of Benton, LA; great grandson, Andrew Justin
Thrasher, IV; brother, Arthur Stevens; sister, Phyllis Boaras;
sister-in-law, Peggy Stevens and brother-in-law, Earl Strayhan.
Mr. Stevens was preceded in death by his parents, T.A. Stevens and Lula
Pirtle Stevens Strayhan; brother, T.M. Stevens and sister, Dolly Stevens
Strayhan.
Pallbearers will be Howard Brooks, Charles Peterson, Tom Person, Jim
Covington, Dale Whipple and Gene Barton.
