Funeral services for Thomas Elvis Hamm, age 102 of
Sulphur Springs were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 17, at West Oaks
Funeral Chapel with Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Burial followed at Enon
Cemetery in Alba. Pallbearers were Edward Bayse, Vernon Davis, William
McDowell, Gordon Ford, John Sharber, and Charlie Charles. Honorary pallbearers
were the Radio Bible Class of First Baptist Church. Mr. Hamm died
Tuesday, December 14, at 10:45 a.m. at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Hamm was born in Alba on November 16, 1902, the son of James and Dillie
Cain Thomas. He married Jimmie Leach in Alba. He was a member of the
singing group, 4H Quartet, and was a member of the Radio Bible Class of First
Baptist Church. He is survived by his daughter, Truby Rice of Sulphur
Springs; one sister, Lila Pope of Alba; five granddaughters, Teresa Sims of
Metairie, La., Donna Harbor of Garland, Cynthia Sandavol of Sulphur Springs,
Marjorie Gilbreth of Clyde, and Linda Brockman of Abilene; four grandsons,
Thomas Hamm of Wylie, Billy Hamm of Conway, Jimmy and James Hamm of Abilene;
eight great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by his parents, two wives, Jimmie Leach Hamm and Belvagene
Dixon Hamm, one brother, four sisters, and two sons. Memorials may be
made to The Radio Bible Class at First Baptist Church. Arrangements were
under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home.
