Location: I made two passes at this cemetery before I could find it. I met a young man near the old Sandies Chruch who helped me by telling me where the cemetery was.Tim Smithwick lives on CR 382 about half a mile from the old church. The cemetery is not on CR 382 but is on a side road before you get to the church and about a half a mile from the church. To get to the cemetery go to FM 1300, which goes from Highway 71 to FM 530. Traveling west on FM 1300 go to CR 363 and turn left. There an L & M Ranch sign at this turn. Go to CR 360 (the maps show CR 386) and turn right. Go to CR 367 and turn left. Go to CR 382 and turn right. There is a dirt road that turns right and from here you can see the old church. Do not turn, but go straight across a cattle guard and there is a sign on the post that says Cemetery Road. Go .3 mile and the cemetery is on the right, in a mott of trees. The trees can be seen from CR 382 when you cross the cattle guard. The cemetery is 8.3 miles off FM 1300.
This is a small Negro cemetery and apparently was part of the Sandies Church at one time. There are thirty-one markers in the cemetery. (The listing of 32 is because no. 3 may go with no. 4) The cemetery is grown up and a few of the markers have sunk into the groun, even tho I was able to read the information on them. The oldest grave marker had a date of 1911, with several in the early 1900’s. The cemetery is at least 84 years old. The survey was done by Sammy Tise on February 11, 1995.
Typist Note: There are no plot or grave numbers on this survey.I have taken the liberty of numbering the entries sequentially. Hopefullythis will help in determining the relationship of one burial to other burials in this cemetery.
