Funeral services for Avell Foster, 84, of Alba,
were held at 2:00 p.m. THursday, Sept. 29, at Eubank Funeral Chapel, Canton,
with Rev. Sylvester Matthews officiating. Internment was at Old Bethel
Cemetery, Van Zandt County. Pallbearers were Randy, Kevin, Keith, Jack and
Mark Foster, Mike Patterson, and Buddy Burgess. Mr. Foster passed away
suddenly Monday, Sept. 26, in Emory. He was born July 27, 1921, to Joseph
Benjamin and Lovie Lawley Foster at Old Bethel Community in Van Zandt County.
He married Genevieve on Feb. 8, 1941. He resided in Mesquite until 1982 when
he moved to Rains County. He served in the CC Camp, Kaufman County, during
WWII. He was a member of the Bright Star Baptist Church. He is survived by
four sons and daughters-in-law: Jimmy Paul and Mary Ann Foster of Mabank,
Tommy Joe and Pat Foster of LaRue, Tony Ray and Janice Foster of Palestine,
and Jackey Avell and Cynthia Foster of Quitman; brothers, Hollan Foster of
Tool, J.W. Foster of Combine, Lloyd Foster of Kemp, and Lee Ray Foster of
Cooper; sisters, Evelin Reed of Magnolia, Ark., JoAnn Haddock and Daphnel
Wilson both of Tool, and Thelma Poston of Mesquite; brother-in-law, O.D. and
wife Lorraine Patterson of Mesquite; nine grandchildren; 16
great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews and
other relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years who died in
2004. Eubank Funeral Home of Canton was in charge of arrangements.
