| He came to Texas about 1849. His son, George Washington Jopling, built the cabin known as the Jopling-Melear cabin, now (2009) located in Knapp Park in downtown Arlington. This cabin is as near the original as can be determined. The photo reverenced shows its additions. |

2008--Ralph Shelton, the land developer, has landscaped the lot, put in a sprinkler system, restored the iron fence, and made a display containing a metallic copy of the original land deed signed by Sam Houston.
