This cemetery was located on the old Birdwell homeplace just north of Mt. Enterprise and was the family burying ground for members of the Allen Birdwell family .It was the family cemetery of Co. Allen Birdwell, a pioneer in Rusk County, who moved there in 1838 I believe and whose log cabin is now at Mt. Verde and is on the national register. Many family members are buried at that cemetery, along with a number of slaves. When the land passed from the possession of his descendants, the later owners plowed under the cemetery. Trees marking some of the graves were cut down, while the gravestones were thrown into a ditch and covered. A partial list of those known to be buried here was supplied by Mrs. Bohannon of Mt. Enterprise, and a descendant of the Birdwell family. The dates were obtained from a story on the Birdwell family written in the 1982 Rusk County History Book.
