R.E. Harris Dies at Point
Point April 30 - Robert Edward Harris, commonly and affectionately known as "Uncle Ed," age 75, died here Monday afternoon at 4:45 o'clock. He was born at Marion, Williamson County, Ill. July 3, 1859 and came to Texas at the age of ten and settled with his parents, John L. and Henrietta Harris, in Rains County near where Point is now, located and lived all his life in this vicinity, where he was an honored and respected citizen with a host of friends and a rich, romantic experience of the pioneer days of Rains County. His acquaintance was very extensive and his friends held him in affectionate
esteem. He was unmarried and spent a large part of his life in the families of Samuel Bellah and Judge J. W. Humphreys and his brothers, Marsh Harris and Lum Harris in Point. His home since his brother Lum died a few years ago has been with his nephew Earnest Harris. Funeral services will be held at the Union Church in Point Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with Rev. George C. Hardy, pastor of the Methodist church here and W. B. English of Alba officiating. Burial will be in the Lone Star Cemetery at Point. Pallbearers will be Alex Humphrey, George
Bellah, Grafton Bellah, Man Davis, Joe Cozart and Alex Trimble. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Mary Evette of Bryson, Texas, who arrived here Sunday and Mrs. Susie Beckman of Oklahoma.
