Uncle Henry Ivey Dead
Uncle Henry Ivey, colored, died at his home on Lake Fork the 20th
of November. He was possibly the
most widely known colored man in this county, as he was brought here before
the Civil War as a slave, and continued to live the balance of his life here
after being granted his freedom. His
age was not know, but it is thought that he was between ninety-five or one
hundred years old. He was held in
high esteem by both black and white and his word considered just as good as
his note. His son, Cicero Ivey,
wishes us to express both to the white and colored friends his deep
appreciation for the kindness and help extended during the illness of his
father.
