SLATTER CEMETERY

Rains County, Cemeteries of Texas

At one time the family put up the small stones with just single names on them and nine without names. People are buried at each of these markers and the ones with single names is all, they knew of the name of the person who was buried there. They knew these were people buried there but because no record was kept,  some of the older folks put these there so other generations would at least have some idea who was there. As years past, know one seems to know anymore than what is on the stones.

If anyone has any questions about these if they will contact me I will get with the family and do some more research and see what I can come up with. What I have given you is what is actually on the stone. I have access to the names for some of the ones with initials and am still researching the ones that I am not sure of. You can list my e-mail address if anyone wants to e-mail me.

Turner Boy (unmarked grave)   Mrs. Meadie Turner’s little two-year-old boy was buried at the Slatter graveyard last Wednesday.  He had been puny for two weeks, but nothing serious was thought until Tuesday, they carried him to the doctor.  The little fellow died in the doctor’s office about 30 minutes after they got to Yantis.  We sympathize with the bereaved family.  ("Goodhope Gleaning", Rains Co. Leader, March 7, 1913)
