The earliest burial date appearing on a marked grave is January 15 1849.- However family legend says there was a burial here prior to that date. - Reportedly a woman traveling with a wagon train came through the area and became critically ill at the time her group reached the point where the Jernigan family resided. - The Jernigans took the ailing woman into their home for aid and comfort and she died shortly afterwards.- The cemetery grounds had been previously designated for that purpose and the Jernigans allowed the family to bury her there.- her grave is unmarked and the date of her death is uncertain.- We do know that it was prior to 1849.   Marsha Ivey and Robbie Sutlive (1996)
