WOLFE CITY- John Richard Thornton, 79, of the Hickory Creek, (Hunt Co.), Community, died Monday at 4:50 p.m. in a Greenville hospital.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. today at the Hickory Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. R.A. Leichner, Ted White and Glendon Lemon officiating. Burial will be at the Mount Carmel Cemetery.

He was born May 19, 1903 in Mississippi to James F. and Angie Sentens Thornton. Mr. Thornton was married to Alta Viola Harrell Dec. 21, 1930. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Hickory Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, son, Kenneth Thornton of Wolfe City: daughter, Meredith Norris of Wolfe City: brothers Ozell and Odell Thornton, both of Wolfe City, Gilbert Thornton and Shelby Thornton, both of Irving: sisters,

Bell Thrasher of Marietta, Miss., Alveretta Wilcox of Wolfe City and Eloyse Turner of Dallas; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Pallbearers will be Vaughn Page, Paul Lyons, Denzle Cummings, Joe Lowery, Troy Eubanks, and Edwin West. Honorary pallbearers include Leon Denny, Trude Latimer, Eldon Lowery, Ray Perkins, Sim Owens, and Bob Felty.

Owens Funeral Home of Wolfe City is in charge of the arrangements.
