Desi Ray Smallwood was born July 7, 1952, to the parentage of J.D. and Sue Nelle Smallwood. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1970. He also attended Henderson College in Kilgore and East Texas State University in Commerce.  Mr. Smallwood passed away on Friday, June 23, 2006.  Those left to cherish his memories are three brothers, Billy R. Stiggers Sr. and Tracy Smallwood, both of Dallas, and Hilbert Reed Jr. of Long Beach, Calif.; sister, Avis Washington of Garland; eight nieces, three nephews and 37 great-nieces and nephews.  Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at Bethel A.M.E. Church with Supt. Roy L. Price officiating. Burial will follow at Grundy Memorial Park.  Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Grace & Mercy Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

Sharon Louise “Mickey” Mitchell was born April 15, 1957, to the late Emma Jean Steward and James C. Johnson in Paris. She attended Polytech High School of Fort Worth. In 1978 she married Craig Powell of Fort Worth. Relocating to Greenville in 1990, she departed this life on Feb. 2, 2006.  Cherishing her memory are one son, Aundra Mitchell of Greenville; four daughters, Tajuna Powell and Crystal Powell of Greenville, Lucretia Powell of Commerce and Tashawna Powell of Fort Worth; a sister, Dolly Jean Miller of Greenville; brothers Mannie Mitchell of Dallas, James Mitchell of Paris, Clarence Steward of Greenville and Darrell Mitchell of Commerce; an aunt, Mary “Sister” Heath; and nine grandchildren.  Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday at Wesley Chapel C.M.E. Church with Elder Michael C. Williams officiating. Burial was at Grundy Memorial Park.  Grace & Mercy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements

Leroy “Buster” Wright, 81, of Greenville passed away on May 31, 2006, at Presbyterian Hospital.  He was born Oct. 16, 1924, to Maurice and Anna Ward in Mount Pleasant. He married Margie Goynes on Jan. 7, 1959. Mr. Wright retired from the Greenville Independent School District.  He is survived by his wife, Margie; a brother, Napoleon “Nappy” (Erma) Wright; sons Danny (Shirley) Goynes of Lawton, Okla., and Norris (Maggie) Goynes, Howard (Claudia) Wright and Johnny (Demetrice) Wright, all of Greenville; daughters Virginia (John) Reed of Texarkana, Opal Shepherd of Garland, Doris (Ernest) Randle of Lawton, Okla., Cynthia Wade of Dallas, Carolyn (Eddie) Davis, Millie (Marlon “Buck”) Edwards and Linda (MIchael) Collier of Greenville; 35 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a nephew, Vernon Wright of Grapevine; and other relatives.
His parents and a niece, Anna Grace Lane, preceded him in death.  Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grundy Memorial Cemetery. Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Grace and Mercy Funeral Home.

Danny Ray “D Love” Lovelace, 50, of Greenville died July 17, 2006, at the Dallas V.A. Hospital. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Rev. Napoleon Undra Williams officiating. Burial will be at Grundy Memorial Park.  Son of Curtis and Iva Jean Lovelace, he was born Jan. 15, 1956, in Greenville. Mr. Lovelace served in the U.S. Navy. He was a laborer and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.  Survivors include his mother, Iva Jean Harris of Greenville; his stepmother, Ruby Lovelace of Greenville; two sons, Napoleon Undra Williams (Niki) and Dantora Gilbert, both of Greenville; two daughters, Chaka Johnson (Orsic) and Shamarro Lovelace of Greenville; five stepbrothers, Thomas Lee Harris of Dallas, Rev. Charles Jeffery, Tommy Jeffery, James Fluellen and LaRon Jeffery; a sister, Peggy Jean Kidd (Ellis) of Dallas; three aunts, Ludie Dillihunty, Molly Handy and Nadine Scott; special friend Zebra Gilbert; five grandchildren; and three nieces and two nephews.  His father and one brother preceded him in death.  Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Cozine & Tarver Funeral Home.

Durwood Leon Paschal, 70, of Greenville died July 21, 2006, at a Dallas hospital. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Baptist Church with Rev. Edwin Hawkins. Burial will be at Grundy Memorial Park.  Son of Ross and Dollie Paschal, he was born July 20, 2006, in Pickton. Mr. Paschal was a laborer and was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church.  Survivors include three sisters, Desseree Brown and Hazel Craddolph of Los Angeles, Calif., and Darlene Taniehill of Carson, Calif.; six nieces, Cheron Taylor of Plano, Armelia Manning of Irving, Lynnette Davis and Elise Stokes of Greenville, Makeda Williams of Dallas and Rosalind Brown of Los Angeles, Calif.; four nephews, Michael Rogers of Detroit, Mich., Jerry Lincoln of Bakersfield, Calif., Dwayne Andrews of Long Beach, Calif., and Edwin Davis of Dallas; and other relatives and friends.  His parents, three sisters, two nieces and a nephew preceded him in death.  Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Cozine & Tarver Funeral Home.

Charlie V. Mayberry, 71, of Greenville died Aug. 15, 2006, at the Greenville hospital. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Greenville with Dr. R. Charles Williams officiating. Burial will be at Grundy Memorial Park.  Son of Clyde Sr. and Ollie V. Thomas Mayberry, he was born Jan. 17, 1953, in Point. Mr. Mayberry was a laborer. He was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church and of the Masonic Lodge.  Cherishing his memories are three brothers, Cecil Mayberry and William (Lola) Mayberry of Greenville and Willie (Hazel) Mayberry of Commerce; three sisters, Clara Lee of Tulsa, Okla., Emma Caldwell of Greenville and Ollie Mayberry of Waller; sister-in-law Nettie Mayberry of Greenville; special nephew Tony D. Mayberry of Point; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.  His parents and a brother, Clyde Mayberry Jr., preceded him in death.  Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Cozine & Tarver Funeral Home.

Claudie D. “Son” Lewis died Aug. 17, 2006.  The son of Chester and Sadie Lewis, he was born April 14, 1927, in Pittsburg. He attended elementary school in Pittsburg. Mr. Lewis served in the U.S. Army. He was known as “Uncle Son” to many.  Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Nora Ivery-Lewis; five children, Claudie D. Lewis Jr. of Germany, Leanna Ivery of Dallas, Claudia Berneice Jackson and Sadie Hearne of Greenville and Robert Charles Lewis of Nacogdoches; six sisters, Bessie Conley of Los Angeles, Calif., Ella Bonner, Sandy Gant, and Zelma Mae Brown of Greenville, Dorothy Faye Lewis of Dallas, and Lula Huddleston of Shamblee, Ga.; and two brothers, James Williams of Dallas and Roy Lee Williams of Greenville; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Donnie Traylor and Dewey Traylor; two sisters-in-law, Edna Warren and Maragie Ivory; and a host of nieces, nephews cousins and other relatives.  He was preceded in death by two sisters, Hulene Hale and Lula Mae Jose; and five brothers, Chester Lewis, Hargie D. Lewis, Harvey D. Lewis, Robert Williams Jr. and R.D. Talley.  Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at Truevine Baptist Church with Rev. M.M. McPherson officiating. Burial is in Grundy Memorial Park.  Visitation is from noon to 7 p.m. today and from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Grace & Mercy Funeral Home in Greenville.

Alistair Blaze Tidwell, newborn, of Greenville died Sept. 10, 2006, at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. A graveside service is scheduled at 11 a.m. Friday at Grundy Memorial Park with Rev. John Richardson officiating.  Born Sept. 10, 2006, he was the son of Samuel Tidwell Jr. and Joyce Hill.  Survivors are his parents; grandparents Mary Jean Hill of Greenville and Samuel and Fleda Tidwell of Greenville; aunts Angeleice Hill of Greenville, Terrence Hill of Mississippi, and Bandy Tidwell of Austin; and great-grandmothers Ella Mae Denton of Mississippi and Juanita Tidwell of Greenville.  Cozine & Tarver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

James Edward Dixon, 56, of Greenville died Sept. 12, 2006, at the Greenville hospital. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Living Word Church with Rev. Scott McManus officiating. Burial follows at Grundy Memorial Park.  Born Jan. 4, 1950, in Henderson, Rusk County, he was the son of Doston Sr. and Rosie Lee Smith Dixon. Mr. Dixon was a laborer. Lillian Owens, 96, of California, formerly of Greenville, died Sept. 30, 2006, in California. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wesley Chapel CME Church in Greenville with Rev. Harold Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Grundy Memorial Park.  Born May 9, 1910, in Louisiana, she was the daughter of Frank and Rose Morgan Johnson. She was a school teacher and was a member of Wesley Chapel CME Church in Greenville.  Survivors are two sons, Donald Owens of Germany and Ernest Owens of California; one daughter, Fannie Fiddmont of Colorado; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  Her parents preceded her in death.  Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. followd by a wake from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Cozine & Tarver Funeral Home of Greenville.

Annie Louise Dixon of Dallas died Oct. 6, 2006. Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Thursday at Pilgrim Tabernacle Church of Deliverance in Greenville with Elder W.D. Price officiating. Burial will be in Grundy Memorial Park. Born Aug. 30, 1938, in Henderson, she was the daughter of Presley Dixon and Janie Mae Howard. She was a homemaker and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Caddo Mills.  Survivors are three sisters, Pearlie Davis and Vavalene Robinson of Greenville and Faye Davis, wife of pastor Adolphus Davis of Leonard, and a host of niece, nephews and other relatives and friends.  Her parents, three sisters and three brothers preceded her in death.  Cozine & Tarver Funeral Home of Greenville is in charge of arrangements.

Johnathan Bernard Johnson was born Aug. 29, 2001, in Greenville to the parentage of Zena Johnson and Robinson Wilson. God called J.B. home after five glorious shared years on Oct. 29, 2006, because he needed another little angel.  He leaves to cherish his memories his parents; two brothers, Kadeem Johnson and Woodrow Wilson; a grandmother, Juanita Spillman; special aunt Cynthia Jordan; and a host of cousins, family and friends.  Two grandfathers and a grandmother preceded him in death.  Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pilgrim Tabernacle Church of Deliverance with Elder Wesley Pierce officiating. Sonja Louise (Wright) Morton was born March 4, 1964, to the parentage of Nina Rose Williams and William Wright in Greenville. She attended Greenville High School and was a member of Mount Elem Baptist Church.   She departed this life on April 12, 2006.  Left to cherish her memories are her mother, Nina Rose Williams; her father and stepmother, William and JoAnne Wright; a son, Brandon Morton; sisters Dwana Mumphrey (Harold), Chanda Miles (Tim) and Robin Henry; stepsiblings Sandra Smith (Paul), Richard Williams and Claudis Wayne Williams (Teresa); special aunts Amelia Grant and Helen Grant (Ronny); and grandmothers Vera Wright and Junie Traylor Jones.  She was preceded in death by a grandmother, Mary Morton; her stepfather and two aunts.  Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Elem Baptist Church with Rev. Annie Mae Butler, 76, of Greenville died Thursday, May 11, 2006, in a Dallas hospital. Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at Johnson Street Church of Christ with Brother Jerry Taylor officiating. Burial is in Grundy Memorial Park.  Mrs. Butler was born April 6, 1930, in Neaches, Texas; the daughter of York Smith Sr. and Beaulah Wilson Smith. She was a homemaker and a member of East Side Church of Christ.  Surviving are sons, Charles Taylor of Dallas and Edward Taylor of Sulphur Springs; daughter, Jo Ann Taylor Gipson (James) of Greenville; brother, Sammie Lee Smith of Houston; sister, Gladys Ashford of Greenville; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; brother-in-law, Willie Wilmore of Corsicana; and sister-in-law, Velma Smith of Greenville.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons and two daughters.  Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Cozine & Tarver Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
