Freda Faye (Lewis) Shafer, 95, of Greenville went to be with her Lord on June 24, 2006, following a long stay in Greencrest Manor Nursing Home. A celebration of her life will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Peters Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Martha Murchison officiating. Her final resting place will be next to her husband and first daughter at Memoryland Memorial Park.   Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.  Freda was born in Pretty Prairie, Kan., on Feb. 3, 1911. Her family moved to Leoti, Kan., in the ‘30s. She graduated from Sterling College and taught school for two years before marrying Joseph Putman (Put) Shafer, then moving to Englewood, Colo.  Freda was a member of the local Newcomers Club, the Garden Club, and Altrusa. She was a member of Aldersgate Church and attended Grace Presbyterian with her daughter and son-in-law. Freda enjoyed traveling with her husband and took great pride in promoting the education of her daughter and grandsons.  Her husband of 52 years; first daughter, Shirley Rae; parents, Alonzo E. and Ora Dell Miller Lewis; brothers, Eugene and Neil Lewis, and two sisters, Vera Lipus and Rena Wewer preceded her in death.  Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Thomas Petersen of Greenville; grandsons Johnny Wasson and wife, Lesa of Greenville and Jeffrey Wasson of West Tawakoni; a sister, Jeanette Smith of Leoti, Kan.; and sister-in-law Susie White of Leoti, Kan.

CADDO MILLS — Yuba Valerie Caldwell Crump, 90, of Irving died June 26, 2006, in Irving. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rentfrow Funeral Home chapel in Caddo Mills with Rev. Jerry McGinn officiating. Burial is at Memoryland Memorial Park in Greenville.  The daughter of Henry and Mariah Jewel Crawford Caldwell, she was born Aug. 30, 1915, in Cash. She was married to Alvin Boyd Crump and was a homemaker.  Survivors are a son, Jeffery Thornton of Irving; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancie and Bobby Thornton of Irving; grandchildren Jeffery Thornton of Irving and Charla and husband Greg of Frisco; two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Connor Matlack; and a brother, Elber Caldwell and family of Taylor, S.C.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin and Boyd Crump, parents, and son Charles A. Crump who was killed in Vietnam; a brother, Ellis Caldwell and sister, Velma Cox.  Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Vonnie Faye Hovas King, 79, passed away on June 20, 2006, at Greenville Health and Rehab.  She was born Feb. 7, 1927, in Inverness, Miss., to Percy Carl and Lora Mae Dewett Hovas. Faye will be remembered by all who knew her as a loving mother and a good friend. Her wonderful sense of humor delighted all who came in contact with her.   She worked as a secretary for the City of Greenville for several years. She was an excellent seamstress, making many beautiful wedding gowns. She was of the Baptist faith.  Survivors are her daughter and son-in-law, Billye and Leonard Veak of Greenville; two sisters, Floyce Collins of Kilmichael, Miss., and Joyce Sanders of Madison, Miss.; a brother, D.D. Hovas of Kilmichael, Miss., and wife Ruth; grandsons John Lee Hudiburgh and Jeff Ott; and a granddaughter, Holly Taylor.  Burial is in Memoryland Memorial Park under the direction of Peters Funeral Home. A memorial service is at a later date at the Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Kilmichael, Miss.

Pearl R. Buchholz, 87, of Greenville died Sept. 9, 2006, in a nursing facility in Greenville.  She was born April 5, 1919, in Barney, N.D.   She is survived by her sons Harland Buchholz, Arvid Buchholz and Mervin Buchholz, sisters Doris Holloway and Edith Johnson, 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.   Funeral services are at 10 a.m. today at Harvest Bible Church in Cash. Interment follows in the Memoryland Cemetery.

Brandon Justin Howell Sr., 29, of Greenville died Thursday, May 25, 2006, in Greenville. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Joe Knight officiating. Burial is in Memoryland Memorial Park.  Mr. Howell was born Dec. 5, 1976, in Greenville; the son of Ray Howell and Joan McNutt Howell. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1995 and from the Texas A&M University-Commerce Firefighter School.  Mr. Howell recently started his own lawn care business, Get-R-Done. He loved riding his motorcycle, fishing and cooking. He was a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association of Greenville. He loved his four children and will always be proud of them.
Surviving are his mother, Joan Howell, of Greenville; father and wife, Ray and Andrea Howell of Greenville; daughters, Brooke Howell, Valarie Howell and Daisy Howell; son, Brandon Howell Jr.; brother, Scott Howell of Greenville; sister, Amanda Howell of Greenville; step-sisters, Elizabeth McKay and Bobbie McKay, both of Greenville; grandparents, Jewel Howell of Kilgore and the late Clint B. Howell, Floyd and wife Elaine McNutt of Tyler and the late Grace Evelyn McNutt; and nephews, Devlin Howell, Bryce Howell and Kellar Howell, all of Greenville.  Pallbearers are Scott Howell, Devlin Howell, Johnathan Andrews, Justin Linex, Paul Putnam, Cory Rasch, Jeb McKinney and Clint G. Howell.  Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pearly Smith, 95, of Greenville, died Friday at Greencrest Manor.  Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Coker-Mathews Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Linden officiating. Burial is in Memoryland Memorial Park.  Born in Leonard on Aug. 28, 1910, she was the daughter of Oscar and Audrey Smith Bridges. She married Garnett Smith on Dec. 3, 1932 in Greenville. She was the restaurant manager of the Vel Mar Drive-In and the Pizza Spa. She was a Baptist and attended Salvation Army church services.  She is survived by her son and wife, Harold and Martha Smith of Greenville; son and wife Freddie and Sandra Smith of Garland; step-son and wife, Dale and Betty Smith of Holt; step-daughter, Garnell Broussard of Dallas; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother and one sister.  Pallbearers include Joe Coleman, Jason Smith, Joey Warren, Carl Dunlap and Floyd Voss.
Visitation is scheduled from 6 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Stanly Thomas, 74, of Greenville died Saturday, May 27, 2006, at his residence. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Bob Layman and Rev. Larry Jordan officiating. Burial is in Memoryland Memorial Park.
Mr. Thomas was born July 8, 1931, in Clinton; the son of Lawrence Stanly and Hattie Gentry Thomas. He married Sallye Jo Tucker on Feb. 16, 1952, in Greenville.  Mr. Thomas was a U.S. Army veteran; having served in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. He was a surveyor with the Texas State Highway Department and a member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church.  Surviving are his wife of Greenville; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Lisa Thomas of Royse City; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Jim Goodman of Mesquite; sisters and brother-in-law, Ardellia Jones of Lubbock and Helen and Erwin Ruggles of Dallas; sisters-in-law, Lorene Hoffman of Greenville and Bonnie Tucker of Clinton; grandchildren, Mitchell Thomas, Cameron Thomas and Caitlyn Thomas, all of Royse City, Stanly Goodman and wife Yujie of Greenville, Nancy Goodman Flournoy and husband Chris of Lufkin, and Bobby Goodman of Duncanville; and great-grandchild, William Thomas Flournoy of Lufkin.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Fredna Weatherley, in 1991.  Pallbearers are Stanly Goodman, Bobby Goodman, Chris Flournoy, Mitchell Thomas, James Ownby, Cameron Thomas and Bobby Tucker.  Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 4144 North Central Expressway, Suite 750, Dallas 75204.  Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

COMMERCE — Wanda Lee Greer, 80, of Commerce died May 26, 2006, in Dallas. A graveside service is scheduled at 10 a.m. today at Memoryland Memorial Park in Greenville with Brother Jeff Bishop officiating.  Born in Dec. 1, 1925, in Greenville, she was the daughter of Roy C. and Minnie Jenkins Abbott. She was married to Kenneth Greer in 1945 in Hunt County.   Mrs. Greer attended East Texas State University. She retired from Raytheon with 35 years’ service where she did booking, technical drafting and was top secret librarian.   Wanda loved the Lord with all her heart and her neighbor as herself. She was very kind hearted and loved deeply; she treated people like her father. She always made people welcome and was not judgmental. She was very talented, was an artist and did oil painting, quilting and ceramics. She was also smart, lots of fun, witty and big hearted, honest and trustworthy. She was a member of Cross Trails Church.  Surviving are a daughter, Linda McGatlin of Commerce; a son, Mark Greer and wife Rita of Greenville; grandchildren Misty L. Madewell, Joshua A. Madewell, Clinton S. Greer, Jason Greer, James M.P. Greer, Barbara L.P. Greer, J. Lindy S. Greer and Amberly D. Greer; great-grandchildren Trenton B. Madewell, Kristine D. Madewell, Hollie M. Loma Lee McWilliams-Fugitt-Shuart, 85, of Greenville, formerly of Celeste, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on the morning of June 4, 2006, at Braircliff Health Care Center. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Bob Layman officiating. Burial follows at Memoryland Memorial Park.  Mrs. Shuart was a lifetime resident of Hunt County, living most of her life in Greenville, Leonard and Celeste. The daughter of May Bell Cunningham and Samuel McWilliams, she was born Sept. 27, 1920, in White Rock Community in Hunt County.  She was an active member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church before her long fight with Alzheimer’s Disease. She had served as president of the WMU, was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the choir. She retired from Eckerd’s Drug Store and Haggar Slacks.  She lived her life for her family and raised her children in the admiration of God. She will be remembered as a praying mother and good wife and friend to whomever she met.  Surviving are three children, Curtis Fugitt of Sumner and DeLores Lindsey and Judy Corcoran of Greenville; one stepson, Jim Shuart of Colorado; a sister, LaRue Nusz of Greenville; eight grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many loving and Christian friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Wilbur Fugitt and Robert Shuart; brothers Tip McWilliams, Jessie McWilliams, Jack McWilliams, Jimmy McWilliams and Anson McWilliams; sisters Mattie Mae Bone, Fannie Harrell and Lorene Harrell; a stepson, George Shuart; and several nieces and nephews.  Pallbearers are Ralph Parks, Johnny Myers, Harold Jenkins, Bobby Fugitt, Larry Eason and Ray Wallen.

Christine Castner, 83, of Greenville died the morning of June 5, 2006, at Winter Park Nursing and Rehab Center in Garland. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Charles Ivy officiating. Burial follows at Memoryland Memorial Park. 
Daughter of Crum and Jimmie Sparks Hendrix, she was born June 22, 1922, in Tupelo, Miss. On June 16, 1945, she was married to Lonnie D. Castner in Greenville. Mrs. Castner was a homemaker, and she was a member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church.  Surviving are her husband of Greenville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte and Tim Powell of Garland and Eleanor and Roger Smith of Tupelo, Miss.; granddaughters Leah and husband Tony Gore of Greenville, Jana Powell of Garland and Atonya and husband Mike Smith of Tupelo, Miss.; great-grandchildren Kiersten Pate and Josh Smith, both of Tupelo, Miss., and Peyton Gore of Greenville; a brother, James Hugh Hendrix of Ponotoc, Miss.; and sister Charline Oglesby of Little Rock, Ark.  She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bill Hendrix, and a sister, Linda Roye.  Pallbearers are Eric Castner, Keith Castner, Randy Leggett, Willis Wade, David Sumrall and Joe Waldrop.

Wilma Jewel Windham Kalies, 84, of Greenville died the morning of June 6, 2006, at her residence. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Friday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Mr. Gordon Grammer officiating. Burial will be at Memoryland Memorial Park.  The daughter of Ottis Lee and Ruby Murel McBurnett Windham, she was born Aug. 1, 1921, in Paris. On April 26, 1943, she was married to Richard Joseph Kalies in Waco. She was a homemaker, and a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.   Mrs. Kalies was a member of Southside Church of Christ.  Wilma Kalies inspired her family through a well-lived life of faith, love and purpose. She will be greatly missed and always celebrated.  Surviving are her husband of Greenville; two daughters, Ricki Lynn Malone of Duncanville and Deborah Ann Merrick of San Diego, Calif.; a sister, Alma Jane Caryl of Greenville; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.  Her parents and two sisters preceded her in death.  Pallbearersare Sam Merrick IV, Rick Merrick, Jon Malone, Jeremy Malone, Todd Olander and Brett Duncan.  Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Roberta G. Duffy, 93, of Alexandria, La., was born Jan. 31, 1913, in Elizabeth, La., and was called home to be with the Lord on June 1, 2006.   She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Emmit Duffy; her father, Louis Golbert; her mother, Cora Goodson; and a daughter, Patricia Ray.  She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ron and Suellen Meilleur of Pineville, La.; grandchildren Greg and Linda Ray of Blanchard, Okla., and Ryon and Melanie Gilliam of Greenville; her five beloved great-grandchildren, Cole and Austin Gilliam and Zachary, Alexandra and Jacquelyn Ray.  Roberta served as a nurse in Louisiana for many years and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.   Visitation will be from 11:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Saturday at Peters Funeral Home with a graveside service to follow at 2 p.m. at Memoryland Memorial Park in Greenville.

Funeral services for Charles Layton Giles, 58, of Greenville, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21, under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home at Johnson St. Church of Christ.  Burial will be in Memoryland Memorial Park.  Pallbearers will be Brian Giles, Jeff Giles, Jon Giles, Tanner Curry, Keith TOlleson, John Paul Willabay, and Aaron RIvers.  Mr. Giles died Saturday, June 17, at his residence.  He was born in Greenville on December 8, 1947, to Lloyd and Quida Rice Giles.  On December 11, 1976, he married Vickie Tolleson.  He served in the Army, was a supervisor at L-3 Communications, and was retired from the Texas Workforce Commission.  He was a member of Johnson St. Church of Christ and received BS and MS degrees from ETSU.  He is survived by his wife, Vickie GIles of Greenville; daughters Eydie Giles of McKinney and Emma and son-in-law Jon Price of Arlington; brothers Lloyd Earnest Giles of Emory and Bobby Giles of Canton.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Loyd A. Harrison, 86, of Greenville died the morning of June 19, 2006, at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Jim Goodwin officiating. Burial follows at Memoryland Memorial Park.
The son of Robert E. and Pauline E. Greer Harrison, he was born July 7, 1919, in Dulaney. On March 2, 1940, he married Opal Baber in Dallas.  Mr. Harrison was a retired supervisor for General Dynamics. He was a Baptist.  Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, James and Sherry Harrison of Ferris; two daughters and a son-in-law, Brenda Harrison Bell of Murry, Ky. and Janiece Harrison and Bill of Nashville, Tenn.; a brother, Robert Harrison of Dulaney; grandchildren Russ Harrison of Dulaney and Allie Harrison and Trishia Harrison of Ferris; great-grandchild Keleigh Harrison of Dulaney; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife in 1969, one brother and two sisters.  Pallbearers are Mark Harrison, Russ Harrison, Kip Jackson, David Parrott, Bobby Lindsey and Tim Rouwalt.  Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Charles Michael Brantley, 26, of Greenville died July 12, 2006. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Aldersgate Church under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Mark Griffin and Rev. Chuck Ballard will officiate. Burial will follow at Memoryland Memorial Park.  Son of Charles Ray and Nancy Reynolds Brantley, he was born Jan. 19, 1980, in Greenville. A member of the Ninth Texas Infantry Civil War Re-enactment Unit, he appeared in numerous educational films and some movies about the Civil War era. He had several poems published, and one received The Editor’s Choice Award. During the flooding of the Mississippi River in 1993, he helped towns in Georgia, Missouri and Alabama and received certificates of appreciation from the Red Cross and from several of the towns he helped. He was a member of Aldersgate Church and was a college student. Charles Michael was a good son and brother and was kind-hearted to everyone.
Surviving are his parents of Greenville; a sister, Jennifer Brantley of Greenville; grandmother Beulah Reynolds of Greenville; uncles and aunts Bill and Barbara Reynolds, Jerry and Norma Reynolds, David and Gay Brantley, Jack and Maxine Brantley and Gary and Sherry Brantley; an aunt and uncle, Theresa and Larry Gray; an uncle John Brantley; and numerous cousins.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Floyd Reynolds and C.H. and Ruth Brantley, and an uncle, Carroll Brantley.  Members of the Ninth Texas Infantry Civil War Re-enactment Unit will serve as pallbearers.  Visitation is from 6 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Guy Shields, 82, passed away Saturday morning, July 15, at home with his family.  Services are at Highland Terrace Baptist Church Monday at 2 p.m. with Bob Layman, Larry Jordan, Bobby Renfro, Royce Litchfield and Jimmy Rose officiating. Burial will follow in Memoryland Memorial Park. Visitation is at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.  Born July 24, 1923, to William Franklin and Dora Bolton Shields, he married Jettie Lamm on Sept. 27, 1942. His grandfather was one of the Texas Giants honored with a historical marker north of Greenville.  Serving in the U.S. Navy in World War II, he was stationed in the South Pacific in the Solomon Islands for 28 months. He began working in the Greenville Post Office in 1955, then became Postmaster of the Celeste Post Office from 1975 until his retirement in 1983.  Since 1949, he had been an active member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church (formerly Washington Street Baptist Church), He served as a deacon, taught Sunday School, served on numerous committees and was a trustee of the church.  He was a member of the Celeste Lions Club, the Appraisal Board of Hunt County, as well as the Caddo Basin Water Board.  Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Jettie Shields; his daughter, Karen Shields Farrar and husband Charles of Wylie; a son, Rusty Shields and wife Paulette of Carthage; a grandson, Jeffrey Long of Richardson; and granddaughters, Tracy Gaines and husband Brian of Richmond, Robyn Shields of Houston and Caitlin Shields of Carthage. Other survivors include sister-in-law Inez Shields of Greenville, as well as many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wayne and Weldon Shields; and five sisters, Bernice Green, Stella Blaylock, Ruby Friar, Norma Cody, and Opal Turner.  Pallbearers will be Jerry Bench, Charles Roberts, Richard Hardy, Neel Dearing, Marvin Flowers and Taylor Green. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Highland Terrace Baptist Church and the Coleman Sunday School Class.  Memorials may be made to the Highland Baptist Church Building Fund.

AUSTIN — Col. Harry B. Trimble, USAF retired, of Lakeway died July 16, 2006.  He was born to Robert and Winnie Trimble on Nov.5, 1919, at Lone Oak. His joy was in his Lord and his family.  He is survived by his wife, Gean Simpson Trimble of Austin; daughters Suzan Eubank of Garden Ridge, Geanie Oliphint of Austin, and Sally Koster of Colorado Springs, Colo.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.   Graveside services and internment are at 2 p.m. Friday at Memoryland Memorial Park in Greenville. Lonnie Ray, 89, of Greenville died the evening of Aug. 6, 2006, at his residence. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Park Street Baptist Church under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Johnny Hailes will officiate. Burial will follow at Memoryland Memorial Park.  Born July 24, 1917, in Sulphur Springs, he was the son of Oscar Allen and Edna McGinnis Ray. He married Stella Mae Wooten in Greenville in 1933; she preceded him in death. On Jan. 16, 1982, he married Mary Sue Young in Greenville.   Mr. Ray worked for Robin Hood Flour Mill for many years, was an iron worker for 15 years and was also a farmer and rancher. He was a member of Park Street Baptist Church.   Surviving are his wife of Greenville; a son, William Ray of Fairview; daughter Lavern Brown of Greenville; a stepdaughter, Dot Hogge of Greenville; a brother, J.K. Thomas Frank Brewer was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Aug. 9, 2006, following a short battle with cancer.  Mr. Brewer was born May 30, 1928, in Windom, son of Earl Thomas and Verna Elliot Brewer. One of seven children born during difficult times, Mr. Brewer often reminded people how lucky he was to have lived such a full and rewarding life. He married his love Alta L. Stephens on Dec. 3, 1950, and made her his life’s devotion for 55 years. Mr. Brewer joined the United States Army in November 1945. During his enlisted years he received many awards for outstanding service. He served as supply specialist as well as serving with the military police transporting Japanese war criminals. He retired with a ranking of first sergeant E-8 In November 1967 after serving his country for 22 years. As a civilian he later became employed as a contractor for Texas Utilities where he supplied fuel to north Texas power plants. His logistics training in the military proved to be very beneficial to him during this time. After retirement from Texas Utilities Fuel, he and his wife spent most of their days together fishing. This became one of their favorite pastimes, and they were on the lake come rain or shine if the fish were biting.   He is survived by his wife and love of Greenville; two children, son Robert Brewer and wife Claudia of Greenville and daughter Denise Norman and husband Charlie of Little Elm; three granddaughters who fondly called him “Pappa Tom,” Carinne Brewer of Greenville and Kristen Norman and Kelly Norman of Little Elm; brothers Joe Brewer of Bentonville, Ark., Lloyd Brewer of Bonham and Roy Brewer of Pittsburg, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ross Brewer; and sisters Merle Brewer, who was an infant, and Virginia Ballou.  To all who knew and loved Mr. Brewer, he will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.  Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lynch Funeral Home chapel with son Robert Brewer officiating. Burial will follow at Memoryland Memorial Park with Jim Corbet, pastor, officiating.

Herbert C. Lewis, 76, of Greenville, passed away on Saturday at a Dallas hospital. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Peniel Church of the Nazarene with Bros. Marvin McDaniel, Cliff Reneau and Ron Hight officiating. Burial will follow at Memoryland Memorial Park.  Visitation is tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Peters Funeral Home, which is in charge of the arrangements.  Mr. Lewis was born on April 9, 1930; the son of O.C. and Cordelia Vineyard Lewis in Ponchatoula, La. On March 2, 1951, he married Barbara Tomlinson in East Moline, Ill.   He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and worked with the railroad for more than 40 years with Chicago Rock Island Pacific and New Orleans Public Belt Railroads. He was a member of the Peniel Church of the Nazarene.  He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Greenville; daughters, Debbie Lewis and fiancé, Steve Garcia of Kansas City, Mo., Laurie Rushing and husband, Nathan of Gardner, Kans., and Ruth Stoudenmier of Kentwood, La.; son, Mike Lewis and wife, Jan of Greenville; grandchildren, Anne Lewis of Kansas City, Mo., Stacy Bookout and husband, Dallas, Sarah Lewis and fiancé, Weldon Hood, all of Greenville; Isaac, Breanne, and Lindsey Rushing, all of Gardner, Kans.; Stephanie McDuff of Thomasville, Ala., Adam Crawford of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Amanda Stoudenmier of Kentwood, La.; great-grandchildren, Maci and Dylan Bookout and Trey Golden; brother, Gerald Lewis of Amite, La.; and several nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Truett Lewis.  Ray Robnett, Jim Price, Billy Rosenbalm, Mike Rawlings, Jack Young, and Josh Rosenbalm are pallbearers. Ethel Ester Stratton, 90, wife of the late Monty Stratton passed away Aug. 21, 2006, at the home of her granddaughter, Denise Davis, in Arlington, who loved and cared for her during her long illness.  She was born Jan. 6, 1916, and was loved by all who knew her. She worked for Tannenbaum’s Dress Shop in downtown Greenville, and she later volunteered as a “Pink Lady” for the Greenville hospital. She and her late husband were outstanding members of the community and were members of Wesley Methodist Church.   Mrs. Stratton was a devoted wife to her husband and was the mother of two sons, Monty Stratton Jr. and Dennis Stratton. Ethel and Monty were portrayed by June Allyson and Jimmy Stewart in the feature film, “The Stratton Story.”   A graveside service is scheduled at 10 a.m. today at Memoryland Memorial Park in Greenville.  Lynch Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements

Erman Price Carnagey, 82, of Greenville died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006, at his residence. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, 3006, at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Burial, with full military honors, is in Memoryland Memorial Park.  Mr. Carnagey was born April 13, 1924, in Hominy, Okla.; the son of C.E. and Lucinda Jane Walden Carnagey. He married Rudene Rush on Sept. 15, 1945, in Comanche.  Mr. Carnagey was a retired major in the U.S. Army. Jacobs Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Jacobs, of Leonard; brother, Bob K. Jacobs of Harold; brother-in-law, Bill Davidson of Sherman and sister-in-law Carmen Jacobs of Sherman.  Born in Celeste on Jan. 4, 1928, he married Jean Kidwell of Leonard on June 11, 1949, and they celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary this year.
Charles was a graduate of Celeste High School and East Texas State College in Commerce. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1948. He was a member of the Crockett Elementary Dads Club, a coach of Little League baseball for seven years and a charter member of Webb Hill Country Club.  Charles retired from E-Systems in 1984. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the Parkinson’s Support Group of Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville.  He is survived by his wife, Jean Jacobs, son Chuck Jacobs and his wife Sharon, grandson Dusty Jacobs and fiancee Allison Rancich, and son Keith Jacobs, all of Greenville; brothers, Jim Ed Jacobs of Sherman, R.L. “Jake” Jacobs Jr. and wife Paula of Greenville; sisters, Bettie Davidson of Granbury and Sara Renfro and husband Dean of Granbury; brother-in-law Grady Kidwell and wife Mohonna of Trenton; 18 nieces and nephews; 30 great-nieces and nephews and 10 great-great nieces and nephews.  Memorials may be made to the Parkison’s Foundation, P.O. William T. Brown, 88, of Rockwall, formerly of Greenville, died Sept. 5, 2006, at Senior Care of Lake Pointe. Graveside services are scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Memoryland Memorial Park under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home of Greenville. Rev. Martha Murchison will officiate.  The son of William Oliver and Judy Carol Moore Brown, he was born Feb. 7, 1918, in Dallas. On April 3, 1939, he married Dorothy “Dot” Isabelle Johnson in Nocona.  Mr. Brown worked for more than 30 years for Walker McDonald as vice president of marketing and sales. He was a member of Rotary Club-Paul Harris Fellow and Grace Presbyterian Church.  Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Jon W. and Marcy Ann Brown of Rockwall; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Thomas Lynn and Dr. Jane Brown of Fairfield Glade, Tenn.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife on Feb. 14, 2000,; his parents; one sister and one brother.  Memorials may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church.  Visitation is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

A funeral service for Lennis Johnson, 90, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Family Fellowship Church under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Paul Blue will officiate. Burial will be in Memoryland Memorial Park.  He was born January 5, 1916, to Henry Thurman and Pearl Smart Johnson in Point. He graduated from Emory High School and East Texas State Teacher’s College in Commerce. He married his high school sweetheart, Lura Gentry, on June 4, 1938, in Lone Oak.   Mr. Johnson was a faithful member of Family Fellowship and also a member of The Fellowship Bible Class. He was a life member of the Knights of Pythias organization.  Lennis served in the Air Force during World War II. He was a landowner and raised cattle as long as he was able.  After the war was over, he worked for the Texas Employment Commission for 38 years. He enjoyed meeting friends at The Royal Drive-In for coffee and visiting.  Those cherishing his memories are his beloved wife, Lura of Greenville , sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Linda Johnson of Greenville, Jerry and Cathy Johnson of Winnsboro, daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Monty McCarley of Blue Ridge, seven grandchildren Brian and wife Deborah Johnson of Tyler, Wendell McCarley and wife Tammy of Blue Ridge, Michael and wife Amy McCarley of Blue Ridge, Derek Johnson and wife Marci of Lone Oak, Angie Rucker and husband Hank of McKinney, Jennifer Lovett and husband Bryan of Greenville, and Marcus Johnson and wife Stephanie of Austin, sixteen great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly, brother Clifton Johnson and wife Charlcie of Point, brother, Truett Johnson of Farmersville and a sister and brother-in-law, Glenna and Maurice Bigham of Waxahachie, two nieces and husbands, Judy and Ellis Avery of Fayetville, Ark., and Jo Ellen and Frank Longfellow of Point and nephew Jim Johnson and wife Stella of Irving and several great-nieces and nephews and several cousins.  He was preceded in death by his father on February 1, 1961 and his mother in 1966.  Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

On Sept. 17, 1931, she was married to Melvin E. Lew in Fort Wayne, Ind. She was an executive secretary for Bonsib Advertising Agency. Mrs. Lew was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Fort Wayne, Ind., for 77 years and had been a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Greenville since 1992.  Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Nancy Lew of Dallas; grandchildren Marcia and Jimmy Hamilton of Greenville, Susan and Al Hoover of San Antonio and William J. Betty Hickman, 81 of Greenville died Friday at a Dallas hospital. A memorial service will be held at Family Fellowship Church today at 2 p.m. with Rev. Paul Blue and Kenny Stone officiating. A private burial will be held at Memoryland Memorial Park at a later date.  She was born July 22, 1925, daughter of Sam and Nancy (Levacy) Turner in Greenville. On Nov. 14, 1945, she married James Hickman in San Francisco, Calif. She served as church secretary for more than 45 years. She was a member of Family Fellowship.  She is survived by her sons, David Hickman and wife B.J. of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Terry Hickman and wife Venita of Greenville; grandchildren, Joshua Hickman and fiancé Lacey Thompson, Lyndsea Tim Tim and husband, Chad, Nichola Wooten and husband, Tad, Alison Hickman and Chance Lowe; great-grandchildren Skylair Wooten and Arabella Wooten; a brother, Raymond Turner and wife Sherry of Greenville; sisters Rachel Freeman and Trixie Williams, both of Greenville, Janie Jones and husband C.E. of DeSoto, and Louise Butler of Garland.  She was preceded in death by her husband in 2002, her parents; and several brothers and sisters.

Dickey and Tishey McMullen. She was married Feb. 1, 1974, to Wallace Shields in Greenville. She retired after 23 years working for the City of Greenville as a municipal court clerk. She belonged to First United Methodist Church of Caddo Mills, graduated from Greenville High School and attended East Texas State University.  Survivors include a niece, Judy Dickey Higginbothan and husband Bobby of Greenville; and a great-niece, Shelby Breann Higginbothan of Greenville. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers.

Harlan “Dada” Sewell Coffman, 94, of Greenville died Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at North Hills Hospital in Fort Worth. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Gordon Grammer and Robert Gabhart officiating. Burial is in Memoryland Memorial Park.  Harlan was born in Granite, Okla. on Jan. 6, 1912, to A.S. and Myrtie Sue Sewell Coffman. He married Lois Purdy on May 15, 1932, in Weatherford, Okla. He earned his bachelors degree from Weatherford State Teachers College and a masters degree in education from Texas Tech University.  Standing six foot-five in his prime, Harlan played basketball in various forms until he was 86. In his twenties, he played in a game against “Goose” Tatum and the Harlem Globetrotters.  Reaching the rank of captain of the Army Air Corps, he was stationed in Italy during World War II as an educational instructor.  Harlan taught school in Oklahoma, Texas and California. He was the first principal of Walt Disney Elementary School in Anaheim, Calif. During his career in education, he was math teacher, vice principal, principal, interim superintendent and personnel manager. After retiring, Harlan was a cattle rancher in Fort Towson, Okla. and in Commerce.
A long-time Christian, Harlan served for 40 years as an elder in Churches of Christ in California and Texas, including Southside Church of Christ in Greenville.  
Harlan was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Lois, and great-granddaughter, Alexandra “Lexi” Barbour.  He is survived by his brother, John Coffman; daughter Charlotte Jobe and husband, Bob; daughter, Jane Weaver and husband, Dean; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, “who never bothered him;” and many nephews and nieces.  Pallbearers are Barry Weaver, Todd Jobe, Wes Weaver, Thomas Weaver, Kelly Johnson, Chris Conerty and Matthew Allen.  Memorials may be made to Prairie Project of Gilliland Elementary School in Blue Mound.  Visitation is today from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Eula Mae Brown Ramsey, 85, of Greenville died Nov. 7, 2006, in a local nursing facility.  Mrs. Ramsey was born May 26, 1921, to Ewell and Gracie Morris in Nevada. She worked at the Dairy Queen restaurants on Lee Street and Wesley Street in Greenville most of her life.  Survivors include two sons, Larry Brown and wife Helen of Tyler and Jerry Brown of Greenville; a sister, Billie McLaughlin of Fort Worth; grandchildren Kevin Kent of East Tawakoni, James Kent of Longview and Stacey Tredwell of Whitehouse; and five great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husbands Neal Brown and R.J. Ramsey; one grandchild, Jeffrey Brown; and one infant great-granddaughter.  A funeral service is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Lynch Funeral Service chapel with Rev. Ethel Alene Isham Thompson, 91, of Commerce, formerly of Greenville, died the afternoon of Nov. 6, 2006, at Presbyterian Hospital of Commerce. Born Jan. 6, 1915, in Hopkins County, she was the daughter of Oscar Allen and Edna McGinnis Ray. She was married to Robert Alexander Isham on Sept. 18, 1937, in Greenville; he preceded her in death on Sept. 7, 2000. On Dec. 14, 2002, she was married to O.R. “Bill” Thompson.   Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker and caregiver who loved people, cooking and sewing. She was a member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband of Weatherford; a daughter and son-in-law, Ethel Marie and Ray Virgin of Campbell; daughter-in-law Belva Ann Isham of Campbell; a brother, J.K. Ray; a sister, Ruby Stuckey; grandchildren James Ray “Jim” Virgin and wife Cindy, Patsy Sheffield, Karen Tinney, Mary Oellermann and husband Bill, Gary Virgin of Florida and Mel Virgin of Maine; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and extended family.  She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert L. Myrtle Caroline Tillery Hare, 94, of Greenville died early in the morning on Nov. 9, 2006, at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Ted H. Peters (T-Boy), 62, of Plano, formerly of Greenville, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, at Medical Center of Plano. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Aldersgate Church under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home in Greenville with Mr. Randy Daw officiating. Burial will be in Memoryland Memorial Park.   Mr. Peters was born on December 30, 1943, in Greenville, Texas, to Joe Becton and Teddie Rose Hopkins Peters. He married Fonda Lynn Carter on June 3, 1966, in Greenville, Texas. He was the executive director of Heritage Farmstead Museum in Plano. He grew up attending Central Christian Church in Greenville. He was a member of Aldersgate Church in Greenville.  Mr. Peters was a member of the Board of Regents for East Texas State University from 1985-1991; director of The Seywyn School in Denton, Texas, 1986 –1988; member of the Executive Board for North Central Texas Council of Governments, 1978-1980, president of the Greenville Industrial Development Fund, Inc.; secretary of the Greenville Hospital District, 1975-1980; and foreman of the Hunt County Grand Jury in 1978.  He was the director of the East Texas State University Foundation; chairman of the St. Paul Episcopal School Building Program; chairman of the Greenville YMCA Building Program in 1986; chairman of the Tawakoni District Boy Scouts of America; assistance scoutmaster of Troop 316-National Eagle Scout Association and was an Eagle Scout Leader; member of the Hunt County Juvenile Board; and YMCA Girls Softball Coach, 1977-1982.  He was also a member of the Rotary Club in Plano, Texas, and received the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow Award from the Plano Rotary Club 2005. He was the author of the History of Christian Church, The Peters Family History and Western Belt Buckles (in production). He enjoyed photography and genealogy.   He is survived by his wife, Fonda Lynn Peters of Plano, formerly of Greenville; mother Teddie Rose Peters of Greenville, son and wife Andrew and Kelly Peters of Greenville; daughter Amy Teigh Peters-Bull of Sachse; granddaughters Karley Peters of Greenville and Kylee Teigh Bull of Plano; brothers and wives, Jim and Terry Peters of Rockwall and Newman and Charla Peters of Greenville; several nieces and nephews; and a faithful companion, Maddie, his beloved border collie.  He is preceded in death by his father and father-in-law, Truman Carter, and mother-in-law, Irene Carter.  Pallbearers are Lee Clark, Erik Emmerson, Rex Evans, Chris Fugitt, James Goodman, Harry Hudson, Farrell Nalls and Steve Ramsey. Jo Marie Cannon, 91, of Greenville formerly of Valley Station, Ky., entered into eternal life on Friday, Nov. 24, 2006.  Her husband of 59 years, Elmer W. Cannon, preceded her in death in 2001. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Lynn of Lubbock and Mary Watts of Greenville. Also surviving are two sons-in-law, Ira Lynn and Jack Watts; three granddaughters, Jennifer Jennings and husband Tim Jennings, Kimberly Lynn and Emily Watts; two great-grandchildren, Parker Jennings and Kayla Jennings and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and four brothers.  A wonderful homemaker and seamstress, Jo Marie was born Jan. 10, 1915, to Dillard and Lula Carter Barrett in Celeste. She grew up in North Central Texas, where she lived with several of her brothers and sisters, her mother having died when Jo Marie was 10.  She worked at several jobs, but her dream was to marry and have a family. The dream became a reality when, on June 6, 1942, she married Elmer Cannon and finally had a home and eventually a family of her own.  Jo Marie never met a person she didn’t like, all who knew her loved her in return. She genuinely cared about everyone she knew and devoted her life to helping others. She was very gentle but had a strong will and character.  She never got a driver’s license but didn’t hesitate to drive a few blocks in her neighborhood to help someone in need. She was well known in her community as a diligent worker in collecting funds for March of Dimes and the Cancer Fund.  Jo Marie was a devout Christian and member of the Valley Station Church of Christ in Kentucky and the Southside Church of Christ in Greenville. She and Elmer were among the first Christians who met together and established the Valley Station congregation.   For 47 years they labored with the Valley Station congregation where Jo Marie was well known as a wonderful Bible class teacher until well up in years.  Her home was known for her hospitality. Her compassion for others was evident by her endless visits with the sick and elderly and taking food to them. (She was especially noted for her lemon icebox pies.) Jo Marie loved to receive and send greeting cards and often made and wrote them herself with painstaking care.  Besides the physical aid and comfort Jo Marie provided to many throughout the years, she was often by their side as they passed from this life. Her constant companion was her Bible, which she read and studied into the wee hours of countless nights. Her influence for the Lord has touched and encouraged many lives, especially her daughters’.  Visitation is scheduled from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home in Greenville. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27, 2006, at the funeral home chapel, with Gordon Grammer officiating. Burial is at Memoryland in Greenville. Deacons of the Southside Church of Christ in Greenville will serve as pallbearers.

Roy L. Warren, 82, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died Dec. 9, 2006, in Bonham at the Cosper Nursing Home.  He is survived by his wife, Rosabel Warren; two children, Wynn Sikes of Dallas and Trey Warren of Greenville; four grandchildren, Lance Warren, Kalyn Warren, Megan Warren and Michael Sikes; four great-grandchildren, Briana and Brianna Warren, and David and Sara Sikes; and two sisters, Nancy Kate Hamilton and Mary Alice Foster.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth Reeves Warren.  Roy was born on Dec. 20, 1923, to Roy L. Warren Sr. and Mary Addie Hewlett in Oklahoma City, Okla. He attended Texas A&M and graduated from East Texas State Teachers College. He served in the U.S. Air Force in World War II and remained in the Air Force Reserves for 27 years until he retired as a lieutenant colonel.  He married Rosabel Williams on Sept. 10, 1946, in Greenville.  Roy was co-owner of R.L. Warren & Son Insurance Company for 50 years and then associated with Sinclar-Ramsey Insurance. He was a lifetime member of Wesley United Methodist Church and was a member of the Lions Club and Rotary Club.  He also served on the Greenville City Council and was mayor for two years.  Roy was aways there to lend a helping hand to anyone and he will be greatly missed.  Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at Wesley United Methodist Church under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Paul Gould will officiate. A private family burial is at Memoryland Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers are Harold Curtis, Mark Snively, Jack Ramm, Steve Ramsey, Allen Stephenson, Wilburn Hilton, Tar Barlow, John E. Mr. O’Hara died Dec. 14, 2006, at his residence.
He was the son of William Thomas O’Hara and Elizabeth Ramsey O’Hara; and he married Tommie Jean Whatenbarger. Charles Wesley Cantrell, 78, of Greenville went home Dec. 17, 2006, in time to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, following a long and courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He has been released from his physical pain and is breathing fresh air in Heaven.  Services are at 10:30 a.m. today at Highland Terrace Baptist Church with Brothers Bob Layman and Royce Litchfield officiating. Burial follows in Memoryland Memorial Park.  Friends described Mr. Cantrell as a unique person known for his sense of humor and his ability to see the positive side of any situation.  He was born Jan. 12, 1928, in Huntsville, Ala., son of Henry and Grace McAnally Cantrell. In September 1946 he joined the United States Signal Corps and served in the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of staff sergeant and receiving three gold stars and a good conduct medal before being honorably discharged in August 1951.  Mr. Cantrell then moved to Tulsa, Okla., and was employed at Douglas Aircraft for 10 years before moving to Greenville in June 1961 to work in the Engineering Department at Temco (LTV). He was a born engineer, and problem solving was his specialty — whether there was a problem to be fixed or not. He loved his job and was inspired by and had great respect for his co-workers, He retired from E-Systems in 1990.  A longtime member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church (formerly Washington Street Baptist Church), Mr. Cantrell was a deacon and served in a variety of church committees and in many other capacities, including training union director, Sunday school teacher and choir member.  Mr. Cantrell married Vesta Mae Lewis in Tulsa, Okla., on Dec. 19, 1953; she survives him. They were blessed with two sons, Randy and Gary Cantrell of Greenville, who also survive. Other survivors include Randy’s wife, Jane; grandchildren Catherine Cantrell of Greenville and Emma Cantrell and Dylan Dobson of Denton; a brother, Jerry and wife Virginia of Huntsville, Ala.; sisters Charlotte Aulridge of Memphis, Tenn., Jeanette Burgess and husband Buddy of Guntersville, Ala. Jettie Sue Darrell of Albertsville, Ala.; and a brother-in-law, Merle Lewis and wife Dorothy of Sperry, Okla.  He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Gene Cantrell; and several nieces and nephews.  Pallbearers are Jerry Bench, Bill Dennis, Gary Griffin, Lee Harp, Jerry Press and Danny Walker. Honorary pallbearers are Taylor Green and Troy Meeks, who were ordained as deacons along with Mr. Cantrell at Washington Street Baptist Church on April 26,1964; members of his Sunday school class and the Highland Terrace deacon body.  Memorials may be made to the Highland Terrace Baptist Church Building Fund.  Coker-Mathews Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He retired from Shell Oil Company in Houston where he was a draftsman. He was Episcopalian.  He will be missed by many loving friends at the Stonebridge Apartments and so will his “4 o’clock board meetings.”   Survivors are two sisters, Rosemary Pemberton of Greenville and Athalea Akridge and husband Guyle of Lufkin; nieces Dorothy Sue Pemberton of Greenville, Sharon George and husband Mike of Clemmons, N.C., and Marylea Moore of Greenville; a nephew, Mike Akridge and wife Tonja of Lufkin; great-nieces Merideth Moore, Lindsey Akridge and Leah Akridge; great-nephews Clay George and wife Jennifer, Zach George and Christopher Moore; and a great-great-niece, Lane Elizabeth George.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerry Heath.  Homer Horton, Hollis “Colonel” Russell, Nick Sollenne, Tom Thornton, and J.D. Walter Garrett Jr., 87, of Greenville, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Burial is in Memoryland Memorial Park.  Mr. Garrett was born April 26, 1919, in Ennis; the son of Rosa Lamb and Walter Garrett Sr. He married Celesta Harcrow on Aug. 8, 1935, in Ennis.  He proudly served and was well known for his work as a cement finisher in the Hunt County community. He also retired with Cement Masons Local 681 after 36 years.  Mr. Garrett was a member of Living Word Church and will be remembered for his strong and generous spirit and his love for people, especially children.  Surviving are his wife, Celesta Mae Garrett, of Greenville; son, Don Garrett of Greenville; daughter, Nancy Guthrie of Greenville; brother, Samuel Garrett of Fort Smith, Ark.; sister, Modene Grantham of Arlington; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Peggy Garrett; son, Louie Garrett; brothers, Billy Garrett and Lloyd Garrett; and sister, Betty Ann Harper.  Pallbearers are Kelly Garrett, Chaz Garrett, Church Garrett, Bobby Don Garrett, Jeremy East and Leo Hernandez.  Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006, at the funeral home.

Corene Somers, 91, of Greenville died April 22, 2006, at a local nursing home. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Peters Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Bob Layman officiating. Burial will follow at Memoryland Memorial Park. Visitation is from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.  She was born Sept. 17, 1914, in Greenville, daughter of Charles E. and Alice Wall West. On Dec. 28, 1960, she married Dwayne Somers in San Antonio. Mrs. Somers worked as a receiving clerk for Henson-Kickernick for 24 years. She was a member of Eastern Star 189, Rebekah Lodge 144 and Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. She was a member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church.  Survivors are a sister-in-law, Annie M. West, and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband on March 26, 1975; her parents; brothers Bill West and H.A. “Buster” West; a stepbrother, C.T. Acord; and a sister, Lillie Mae Duvall.

Hazel Belle Woods, 78, of Greenville died the afternoon of April 19, 2006, at Medical City Hospital of Dallas. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Paul Gould will officiate. Burial will be at Memoryland Memorial Park.  Daughter of Vester and Fetna Perdue Austin, she was born July 8, 1927, in Hamburg, Ark. On July 5, 1947, she was married to Boyd Woods in Dallas. Mrs. Woods retired from E-Systems where she worked for 30 years. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the ALR Fellowship Sunday school class of Wesley United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Mary Jo Woods and Don and Elizabeth Woods; grandchildren Justin, Britni, Austin and Clayton Woods; and several nieces and nephews.  Her parents; a brother, Gene Austin; and three sisters, Vera, Ruth and Madlene preceded her in death.  Memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 5302 Highway 69N, Greenville, TX 75401.  Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.  Pallbearers will be Don Taylor, J.L. Boles, Bobby Nitson, Ronald Nitson and James Nitson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the ALR Fellowship class of Wesley United Methodist Church.

Brian “B.K.” Craig, 46, was called upon his creator to serve as His eternal angel in heaven. He died May 7, 2006, at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Marvin Mosley and Rev. Dave Davis officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. 
Burial will be in Memoryland Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be cousins John O’Pry and Bill O’Pry, Chris Abbott, Greg Abbott, Stan Abbott and Jason Abbott. Alternate pallbearer will be cousin Larry Nalls.  Mr. Craig was born Dec. 11, 1959, in Greenville to Billy Gene and Dorothy Abbott Craig. He was married Jan. 23, 1994, to Sherry A. Hassell in Lone Oak and was a drafter for Doug Connaly & Associates. He was a Baptist.  Survivors include his wife, Sherry A. Craig of Greenville; his parents, Billy Gene and Dorothy Craig of Greenville; his son and fiancee, Brandon Russell and Heather Doyle of Wolfe City; a daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Brad Phillips of Wolfe City; granddaughters Amberlie and Cheyanne Lake of Wolfe City; brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Deborah Craig and their daughter, Kassi, of Greenville; a nephew and his wife, Jeremy and Melanie Dutton of Royse City; many cousins and other family members.  He is preceded in death by his son, Kyle Robertson.

Collene Lumpkin, 81, of Greenville died Friday, May 5, 2006, at Parkland Memorial Hospital.  Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today at Memoryland Memorial Park under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Vaughn officiating.  Mrs. Lumpkin was born Dec. 2, 1924, in Hunt County to M.A. and Vertie Mae Douglas Alexander. She was married in 1947 to Horace P. Lumpkin in Hunt County. She was a homemaker and belonged to Dixon Baptist Church.  She is survived by two daughters, Sheila Turner and Paula Moore, both of Greenville; and a sister, Margene Faires of Royse City; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Horace P. Lumpkin, in 1980; her parents; two sisters, Mickey Offutt and Glena Farmer; two brothers, Cleo Alexander and Leo Alexander; and special friend Bill Parks.

Clara De Bramlett, 90, of Crosby died Saturday, May 13, 2006, at the San Jacinto Rehab Unit in Baytown. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Kenneth Jones officiating. Burial is in Memoryland Memorial Park.  Mrs. Bramlett was born Feb. 14, 1916, in Clinton; the daughter of Dolphus and Grady Smith Stephenson. She was married to Hugh Derrell Bramlett on July 29, 1933, in Greenville.
Mrs. Bramiett was employed by Hensons, LTV and Mary of Puddin Hill. She was a member of Lamar Baptist church.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Andy and Lisa Bramlett of Crosby; sister, Helen Bethea of Kaufman; granddhildren, Matt Bramlett and Kayde Bramlett, both of Crosby; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and the six V’s.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers and one sister.  Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ken Burks, 57, of Greenville died May 16, 2006, at his residence.  Ken was born Jan. 25, 1949, in Greenville, son of Bernice and Carl Burks. He had worked at Reames Market in Cash with his wife Debbie for the last several years and was a retired auto mechanic for Rhodes Automotive.  Ken was a member of New Beginnings Fellowship Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs.  He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Debbie Burks of Greenville; sons Charles Marzek, Jason Beaver, Edward Beaver, Jeremy Griffin and Bryan Gann, all of Greenville; a niece, Christie Darlin of Greenville; grandchildren Tristion Marzek, Trenton Marzek, Brandon Gann, Drew Gann, and Chasen Beaver.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his mother- and father-in-law, Mack and Gladys Watson.  A funeral service is scheduled at 2 p.m. Friday at Lynch Funeral Service chapel with Larry Jordan and Mike Simpson officiating. Interment will follow at Memoryland Memorial Park.  Pallbearers are Mike Currin, Craig Currin, Charles Marzek, Thomas Minner, Oscar Thomas, Carl Beaver, Trozy Darlin, and Bryan Gann. Honorary pallbearers are Jason Beaver, Jeremy Griffin and Edward Beaver.

Virginia Rust Burton, 82, of Greenville died early in the morning on May 19, 2006, at Colonial Tender Care Unit. Graveside services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Memoryland Memorial Park under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Bob Layman and Rev. Harry Ball will officiate.  The daughter of Sidney Renford and Mertie Ione Stroman Rust, she was born April 19, 1924, in Floydada. On July 27, 1941, she was married to George Allen Burton.  Mrs. Burton was a homemaker. She was a member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church.  Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Alicia and Jim Weeks of Greenville and Patricia and David Grice of Garland; two grandsons, Jason “Tiger” Weeks of McKinney and Allen and wife Amy Grice of League City; and great-grandchildren Kyle Weeks and Conner Weeks of Greenville and Yancey Grice of League City.  Her parents and her husband preceded her in death.  Pallbearers are Jim Weeks, David Grice, Jason Weeks and Allen Grice.

Isabell Guajardo Vega, 40, died July 30, 2006, in Harlingen. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Peters Funeral Home chapel with interment following at Memoryland Memorial Park. A rosary is scheduled at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.  Mrs. Vega was born Oct. 23, 1965, in Slaton to Isabel Torres and Pedro Guajardo. On July 30, 1984, she married Migel Vega in Greenville. She was employed as a food service manager. Mrs. Vega was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Winnsboro and was very active in church work.  Survivors include her husband Migel of Winnsboro; her mother of Greenville; a daughter, Mindy Vega of Okinawa, Japan; three sons, Michael Vega, Anthony Vega, and Christopher Vega all of Winnsboro; three brothers, Nabor Guajardo of Abilene, Pedro Guajardo Jr. of Greenville, and Juan Baldenegro of Greenville; six sisters, Anita Laisure, Janie Morquecho, and Hope Bowers of Greenville, Mary Melendez of Fate, and Yolanda Rios and Lupe Vega of Winnsboro; and several nieces and nephew.  Her father; her brother, Jose Guajardo; and her nephew, Juan Baldenegro Jr., preceded her in death.  Valerio Rios, Jose Vega, Alex Morquecho, David Laisure, George Melendez, and Ben Bowers will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Juan Baldenegro and Pedro Guajardo Jr.

Letha Conradt, 95, of Greenville, died Friday at a local nursing home. Graveside services are Monday at Memoryland Memorial Park at 11 a.m. with Rev. Martha Murchison officiating. No formal visitation is scheduled.  She was born on Aug. 12, 1911 in McLean; the daughter of Jess and Mable (Yarbrough) Ashby. She married J.C. Conradt on October 26, 1935, in McLean. She was a teacher for several years with Austin Independent School District, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, and a member of Grace Presbyterian Church.  She is survived by her brother, Dr. Charles Ashby and wife, Helen of Drumwright, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her husband, J.C. in 1996; her parents; a brother, Lyman Ashby; and a sister, Lorena Brown.  Memorials may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church.  Peters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Freda Faye (Lewis) Shafer, 95, of Greenville went to be with her Lord on June 24, 2006, following a long stay in Greencrest Manor Nursing Home. A celebration of her life will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Peters Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Martha Murchison officiating. Her final resting place will be next to her husband and first daughter at Memoryland Memorial Park.   Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.  Freda was born in Pretty Prairie, Kan., on Feb. 3, 1911. Her family moved to Leoti, Kan., in the ‘30s. She graduated from Sterling College and taught school for two years before marrying Joseph Putman (Put) Shafer, then moving to Englewood, Colo.  Freda was a member of the local Newcomers Club, the Garden Club, and Altrusa. She was a member of Aldersgate Church and attended Grace Presbyterian with her daughter and son-in-law. Freda enjoyed traveling with her husband and took great pride in promoting the education of her daughter and grandsons.  Her husband of 52 years; first daughter, Shirley Rae; parents, Alonzo E. and Ora Dell Miller Lewis; brothers, Eugene and Neil Lewis, and two sisters, Vera Lipus and Rena Wewer preceded her in death.  Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Thomas Petersen of Greenville; grandsons Johnny Wasson and wife, Lesa of Greenville and Jeffrey Wasson of West Tawakoni; a sister, Jeanette Smith of Leoti, Kan.; and sister-in-law Susie White of Leoti, Kan.

Jerry McGinn officiating. Burial is at Memoryland Memorial Park in Greenville.  The daughter of Henry and Mariah Jewel Crawford Caldwell, she was born Aug. 30, 1915, in Cash. She was married to Alvin Boyd Crump and was a homemaker.  Survivors are a son, Jeffery Thornton of Irving; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancie and Bobby Thornton of Irving; grandchildren Jeffery Thornton of Irving and Charla and husband Greg of Frisco; two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Connor Matlack; and a brother, Elber Caldwell and family of Taylor, S.C.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin and Boyd Crump, parents, and son Charles A. Crump who was killed in Vietnam; a brother, Ellis Caldwell and sister, Velma Cox.  Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
