Files Valley Cemetery
Hill Co. Cemeteries of TX
Submitted by Robert McEver
Winn Photos by photos by Jamie Wood (JW)
The cemetery is located on the northeast side of FM 66 in the community of Files Valley. The entrance is 5.3 miles east of the intersection of FM 66 and I35W at Itasca, TX. (see photo of entrance)
There are 395 total entries including two (2) named plots with no markers within the plots as well as one stone with stick-on letters “Baby Bes__e” (Bessie) that was assumed to be Satterfield due to the proximity of markers. There are 4 metal markers by south fence which were ineligible and not included and assumed to be infants.
Of the total entries (395), there are 63 that were three (3) years of age or less, 38 of which were buried between 1900 and 1910.
The earliest date of burial recorded at the Files Valley Cemetery is 1876. The name is Jeremiah Files born in 1807.
For information on site availability or contribution to the maintenance trust fund, contact Kenneth Stufflebeme in Itasca, TX – (254) 687-2340.
This recording was made April – June 2007 by Donald Wyatt – Itasca, TX and Robert McEver – Houston, TX bmcever@sbcglobal.net
