THERE ARE 108 GRAVES IN THIS CEMETERY. This Cemetery is in litigation because of encroachment.
LOCATION: Hidalgo County TX. Mile 1/2 West and Mile 15 and 3/4 North, close to transmitter south of La Villa, on Baseline Road (FM491).Surveyed Jan 4, 1981 by Goldsby Goza, Maria de la Luz Hernandez and Fran Isbell. Burials stopped in the 1950s because of high water table.
HISTORY: San Jose Ranch was established in 1860s by Silverio Solis (1845-1921 and his wife Maria Ana Cavazos, and his brother Dolores (1844-1918). Brothers were grandsons of Juan Jose Solis, Spaniard, from Rancho Soliseno, Tamaulipas, across Rio Grande just south of Bluetown. Ranch was purchased by American Rio Grande Land & Irrigation Co. about 1912.
