David Andrew Baker was born 27 August 1806 in
North Carolina he is listed as head of the household on the 1830 census in
Madison County Tennessee, age 20-30 with a wife age 16-20 and two sons age 0-5 [
The father of David is believed to be Joshua Baker who is listed on the 1810
census for Cabarrus County North Carolina and that is probably where David was
born.]
David's wife was Susan Rushing, also born in North Carolina 22 September 1808.
They were married some time before the birth of their oldest child, John Wesley
Baker, on 15 Jan. 1829 in Tennessee and the second child, Jacob Rushing Baker
[ These are the two sons listed in the1830 census.]
David and Susan were the parents of ten additional children (total 12), Joshua,
Anne, Rebecca Jane, Samuel Houston (my ggrandfather), Hannah A., David Giles
(who served in the Confederate Army and subsequently lived and died in Van Zandt
County), William Washington, Eliza W., Thomas Jefferson and Winfield Scott
Baker.

male 0-5, 2 males 5-10, 1 male 10-15, 1 female 0-5, 2 females 5-10

Samuel Houston Baker married Peninah Piland Fulfer in Lamar County Texas 12
September 1860 and the 20 september, 1860 census for Lamar Co. shows Penina and
her son, John Fulfer by her first husband, living in the home of her father,
Mills Piland. Also listed in that home are her mother, Penina and her brother,
Elijah Piland. Others of that family are listed on the same census pages.
The 1870 census for Lamar Co. lists Samuel 31, Penina 31, John 14 (This is John
Fulfer), William L. 12 (should be 8), Syntha E. 6, James C. (my grandfather) 4,
Samuel H. 2, William C. Piland 15, Thedoria E. Piland 9, Elisha Piland 6 &
Henry A. Piland 4. (all children born Texas)

My mother, Laura Baker, was born 14 March 1900 in Greer Co., OK. She was one of
eleven children born to James Carroll & Emily Eldora Wallis Baker. She married
my father, Joseph Horry Spencer 20 May 1920 in Fort Worth and I was born 8
November 1933 near the current location of Eagle Mountain Lake in Northern
Tarrant County.
