Harold Self
Harold Self, age 79, of
Gatesville, passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2007, at a local nursing home.
Graveside services were held at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 5, at Pearl
Cemetery with Edward Schwaub officiating.
Harold Self was born on January 11, 1928 in Shamrock, Texas to the late Claude
Raymond and Barbara Elizabeth Schenck Self. He attended school at Iredell and
entered the Military Army Air Corps during World War II. He served in Japan.
After being honorably discharged he worked at Joe's Bakery while attending 4C
Business College. He married Carrie Dee Landis on April 21, 1950. Mr. Self
worked for Sears in Fort Worth as supervisor of the Service Department for over
20 years, and received several awards. After retiring, he and his wife moved to
Pearl, Texas to farm. He had very fond memories of his Grandfather, Cap Schenck
who raised him. He was preceded in death by his brother, C.R. Self.
Mr. Self is survived by his wife, Carrie Self of Gatesville; son, Rick Self and wife, Mandy of Dallas; daughter, Charlotte O'Kelly and husband, Jim of Fort Worth; and grandchildren, Justin Wesley Self, Aubrey Lynn White, Michael Patrick O'Kelly and Matthew James O'Kelly.
